According to elljay's graphed stats (access through the 'Useful resources' sticky), it would appear that C- has fewer defaults/£ than A (and that C defaults about the same amount as B). Can someone tell me what I am missing? Thanks.

C- (now D) loans have only been on offer for a relatively short amount of time; as most defaults tend to occur later in the lifecycle of a loan the figures for this risk band currently look very good. The real acid test will be when the earlier C- loans are reaching maturity.

C- (now D) loans are a recent introduction and fairly low volume compared to the other categories so there hasn't been enough time to get the real failure rate yet.
Also these companies may be trying to rebuild a poor credit history and are being careful to manage repayments.

Thank you very much, coop and longjohn. It looks like C- have only been around since March 2014.

And happily there's yet to be a single default on an E rate-band loan ... (reckon should be safe to hold them for at least the first month)
