Having recently had a nice family holiday in Western Scotland - area of natural beauty, beach, peace & quiet, horseriding & some lovely ice cream in tow (will happily pm the exact area to anyone interested), what is your favourite holiday (not necessarily a family one)? Though will happily hear more 'family' holiday suggestions in the process.

Sun, snow, saunas, hot tubs, wonderful mountain air, mountain food. Got to be the trips where I tie two planks of wood to my feet and slide for me  |

Two weeks touring China some years ago.
Broken wrist for me; a stay in a provincial hospital on a drip for my wife (food poisoning); and both of our children feverish from some unknown assault on their immune systems.
They say a change is as good as a rest though, and unfailingly polite, flexible and diligent tour guides ensured that what could have been a disappointment was actually an adventure.

Sounds ideal for penguins......Aberystwyth next perhaps? p.s (I hope you found enough fish and chips there) Plenty of fresh fish! But we opted for the fried variety instead. The kid's constitution can't handle the former
