Whilst there are a million and one things to consider as part of this... One specific I wanted to call out... To get onto the majority of platforms you need to enter an email address and password. On ios at least (potentially android) the keyboard adapts to the type of input. So urls get a different keyboard to text to emails. The latter has AT in an easy place and can put .com or .co.uk from a single press. However the website needs to define the type of input as email. This is a handful of letters in the form. Details
Obviously things like caching user ids or similar reduces the need for this, but for those which like to avoid that, a simple tweak can improve the user experience. Currently RS, AC and FC do this. Abl, W, RBeS and SS currently do not, but could with a tiny tweak. One for the relevant platforms to consider please.

On a different but related theme: Many sites, not only p2p, use one's email address as the user ID. I can see that this is very convenient for the site for various reasons. However it raises a question when someone wishes to change their email address because they are being overwhelmed with spam, or they are changing their ISP. This is a tedious enough exercise anyway without the complication that the old email address is also doubling up as a user ID. So my question is: has anyone changed their email address, and the old one has become invalid as an email address, but successfully continued to use it as a user ID? The site may try to collect the email address from the user ID field in which case the user ID would have to be changed, but how would one know? Otherwise I cannot think why this would not work but I have not dared to try it. I would be grateful for anyone's experience.

For this reason I typically keep my email address saved in the clipboard on my iPhone. Not just for p2p but many websites use it as username.

Simple
Host your own domain and use a different email for each website, for example ss@<mydomain.co.uk>, rs@<mydomain.co.uk>.
Have all the email coming in routed to a single 'master' email address which is never given out, just to keep things simple on my end. Provides hours of fun when you create a new one for a new non p2p, maybe like an online CONFUSEing comparison website, enter the newly created email address as your login, ensure you check all the 'do not contact me/do not share my email with 3rd parties' boxes and then watch how many emails come into that address. That one particular sites must have sold the address onto so many others as that email address was receiving spam at about 25/day within two weeks of me entering the address on their site and not divulging that address to anyone else.
Obviously at that point you can just delete that email from your domain as it would be no longer required. I also have another master address called thisisgoinginthebin@<mydomain.co.uk> which is given when I just need a single response, that inbox is cleared down on the last day of the month and currently has 8237 emails in it from the last 18 days. Those of you old enough can now starting singing along with me in the classic Monty Python song..........

I see sites offering free domain hosting but is there a catch?

Have seen the adverts for these types of places but never used any so unable to comment. Would not think it would cost too much but you need to ensure you have access to create and configure your own additional addresses, otherwise the delays would likely make it onerous. I have a relationship with an ISP who does all this kind of stuff for me and am fortunate not to have to pay for it, but might be worth contacting a local company who can provide this type of service as I would not think it would be prohibitively expensive. If interested I will ask my chap how much he would anticipate hosting an email domain to meet these requirements would cost. Certainly makes me feel better when all the forum threads on 'Plusnet emails not getting through' etc etc start circulating, and I think I used to get (now irrelevant)SS new loan emails a smidge quicker than most. Edit Just thought that an added benefit would be that you would be able to use a discreet unique email address for your Ashley Madison account pikestaff

Supposing that I want to do this, how much will it cost? I see sites offering free domain hosting but is there a catch? I do a less extreme version of this, I have mailinglist@mydomain junk@mydomain and a few others. These are directed to different folders on the IMAP mail account which my phone doesn't pickup. I pay heart internet about £5 a year for the domain name which allows me to edit the MX record and then I set that to my mail service which currently costs me about £16 per year. I am concerned about their longevity so I won't name them. (If they do bust or close no big deal I just change the MX record to my new provider.) Edit: I have in the past (long time ago) used a free domain name service, but the service was bad value for money even at free. That doesn't mean that they are all bad. Heart have answered my phone calls and emails and have always been worth the small fee. Further Edit: many email services allow you test them for free for 30 days. This is probably a good idea and then if you don't like it or it won't do what you want try another and all you have to do is change the MX record on the domain name.

Supposing that I want to do this, how much will it cost? I see sites offering free domain hosting but is there a catch? Other than spending money unnecessarily? Just go and use the free spamgourmet. I first started using it in 2001. It's reliable, really free and gets the job done with extreme convenience. Want a new email address? Just type it into the email address box for whatever site you're on. It'll be created the moment the first email to the address arrives. somep2p.20.someuseraccountnameforanexample@spamgourmet.com or whatever else, just replace somep2p with whatever makes sense fo the company, site or individual you're dealing with/ want to stop emails? Just set the remaining email counter to 0 and all future emails to that address will be eaten instead of passed on. Want to get an unlimited number of emails to the address? Just add the senders to it to your trusted sender list and emails from them won't affect the counter. You can change the email account that your emails get forwarded to at any time. Stats for me at the moment are 15k+ forwarded, 221k+ eaten, 600+ address. That's 221k spam emails that haven't ever hit my mailbox.
