When a loan finally does pay up, does SS send an email to the affected lenders to let them know, so that they can put their newly idle funds back to work?

Yep. Something along the lines of:-
Dear RM,
We are pleased to announce that PBL010 has now been repaid in full. The borrower refinanced this property through an alternative finance provider.
All investment capital, plus July's interest (13 days) for PBL010, has been credited to investor's accounts and is now available for reinvestment or withdrawal.

Yes, but I think it is a manual process, so no guarantees. Here is a completely different example:
PBL003 has now been repaid we have repaid all investors their capital plus 15 days accrued interest for December.
