Nope, not auctions .. much much more ancient than that. Hover over the '?' next to the 'loan title' column on the auction list page, and see what you can see. Of course, I suppose it might come back, as yet another 'please buy this loan' persuader.

I still have two listed in my sold loan parts, which is odd because the loans have been repaid.

<expectant little faces gaze up> So, Grandad... Tell us all about these strange things from dim and distant past times...? Just hover over the "?" in question, and read about the wonders of NF all on your own. 8>.

Things were much more difficult in the early days. When looking for errors in the double entry transactions we had to cope with twelve pennies in a shilling and twenty shillings in a pound. Fairy Cycle had to work to a quarter of a farthing. Bids for loan parts were in guineas, of course. But per centum was always per centum. I still have my slide rule.

And did your submit your bids by post, not forgetting to include a £20 postal order for each loan part required, and an SAE if you wanted them to send you a small slip of paper typed "bid accepted"?

The SAE was actually so they could send your cheque or PO back if the bid was rejected. 8>.

Yes, to make 50 bids you had to send 50 separate postal orders in 50 separate envelopes with 50 stamps, some things haven't changed much
