Hi,
What is the relationship between the loan number, for example 16735, which appears next to the loan and the number in the URL in this case 88516? And is there anywhere I can download them? When I view my loans online I can see both, but when I download the CSV the numbers from the URL are not included.

This was once discussed with no firm conclusion. My best guess is that at some point during the loan application process, the application is assigned a file or serial or 'web' number. There will be more of these numbers than there are of loan ids as some applications will not progress to the market. So there are gaps in the series of 'web' numbers. Of course, since the introduction of whole loans, there are gaps in the loan id series as well. The 'web' number can be useful, for example, when trying to view a loan after an auction has finished and in which one did not buy a part.
The only way of resurrecting a 'web' number that I know of is to ask on this board and GSV who is a noble and unofficial archivist may be able to tell us from his store of Fruitful Crumbs.

Yep, I have a pretty full set, excluding WLs, ones which were never accepted, and ones which repaid before I started collecting. However if you didn't bid, and there are no parts for sale, you can't get to the original application even if you know the right web page .. it's only really helpful if you did bid, but have long since sold the part(s) and there are now none for sale (or if the loan has since gone mammaries skyward). I occasionally trawl back through comments on parts I once owned just to see what fusillade of bullets I managed to dodge by selling out in time. 8>.
While the numbers generally increase over time, there are some big hiccups in the web page series, i.e.
16729 89403 16726 75208 16724 88972
and
16660 88979 16656 72245 16653 78240
so I suspect there are two or more parallel series of numbers in use, maybe each being fed by an introducer channel or similar.
(There are a few similar big gaps in the loan number series too, but none recently, apart from the WL numbers).

Thanks both. And thanks for the tip on holding on to the code for loans sold. Interesting 10,000 or so more loans and they will have their own Y2K type problem - I hope they have coded it!

That just shows the importance of this board. If FC had not read the posts and taken immediate action the whole system would have melted down. They never said thank you. Typical.

That has to be a Fearsome Conspiracy theory. If it had been down to our Friendly Corporation to implement any kind of Fixed Counting, we'd still be waiting.

I'm looking forward to loan part numbers hitting maxlong, but it might not be in my lifetime, especially now most loans go to just one part.

I'm looking forward to loan part numbers hitting maxlong, but it might not be in my lifetime, especially now most loans go to just one part. They would have catered for the business plan when designing the system. It would have required at least 100,000 loans at £50k and allowing 1000 parts per loan requires at least 100 million parts. Six and nine digit numbers min.

You think they DESIGNED the system? Excuse me while I fall about laughing. 8>.
