OBE for Giles Andrews (Zopa) and CBE for Samir Desai (FC). Who saw that coming? Views? Well I don't know 'em, but if this is for services to industry etc i.e. for what they are doing on p2p rather than for some other achievements, seems like a nonsense. Their efforts are hardly rooted in philanthropic motives.

Rather ungenerous comments. This is the way the establishment recognises the inclusion of a new industry sector, and you would think that we on the p2p forum would be pleased to see that recognition of p2p. Sure, the idea of selective individual honours in furtherance of the British Empire is outdated. But that is how it is done. Remember the banking knights? Good news for p2p.

Whilst I've never invested with Z, have not put money into FC for 18 months and only have a relatively small holding in Ratesetter, if it hadn't been for these large players, I wouldn't have got into the world of P2P in the first place. So,whilst I'm not keen on the awards system, I am grateful to these large players and the risks they have taken in disrupting the cosy world of banking.

I began a thread in 2013, on the ZOPA forum, about a Which? magazine survey of P2P in which I speculated about knighthoods for the trailblazers. But I missed the possibility of institutional money doing what I feared treasury money would accomplish - suppression of interest rates for private lenders.

I would think that providing finance to help businesses grow would be considered a more worthy enterprise than encouraging individuals to become further indebted so they can have it all now, instead of earning the money before spending it.

I thought I was being specific, never "heard" of them, literally no one has ever spoken their name to me. Read about them all over. FC worry me and I'm a bit like the guy who sees the scorer put the ball in the back of the net and asks "who started that move?". Just me I guess. I must come from a generation where you did your job and got paid, end of. Yes, I must be a bit humbuggy but it all sounds a bit meh, is the last £1 in the £1B more important than the first £1? Either way have a Happy New Year.
