With Merlin's input (above) and the fact that they have traded (with their clearly different product) successfully despite Wetherspoon's nearby presence, I will be in this before the auction ends.

I have already chucked my fist full of dollars in the pot
Scotland want independence and Wales appear to have adopted the dollar. Whatever next. Ah, but it is amazing what you can achieve with only partial independence. In just over a decade the Welsh Assembly Government has managed to turn what was a 1st Class Health Service into nearly the worst performing in Europe and as for Education that has fallen even further in the World League Tables. Soon you will be able to get a 1st Class degree in Wales in the subject of your choice if you can list every letter in the English alphabet and list all the numbers between one and ten! So Dollars, Pounds or Euros its only paper!

If in Wales, I would think that it would be a basic requirement to list every letter in the English alphabet. Not necessarily, indeed preferably not, in the normally accepted order, nor even the normally accepted combinations, but all of them nonetheless. the title of htis thread is exhibit A, and Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch is exhibit B.

So you get your own army, navy, air force and everything else that goes with it. Then with the end of subsidies I may be able to get some mega pot holes sorted out locally. When I go over the border (into Wales) I think they've cornered the market in tarmac. Some of their roads are like billiard tables.

I think that is great! My wife nearly fell over when she read it and it takes a fair bit to make her laugh.
By the way I spent a large chunk of my working life in Bracknell in what was once the tallest building for a long way around and a then sited a little way out of Bracknell Town proper. In those days it had a sign on the top proclaiming "ICL" now it has become oriental and become Fujitsu. Memories of long legged girls with very short skirts seem to invade my mind but that is not allowed in this day and age or I might be branded sexist. I lived down the road in Wokingham with one such lady. Then Wokingham was very detached from Bracknell. Now I am not sure where Bracknell ends and Wokingham starts as it seems they have become joined. Oh happy days!

Another 12 days to wait. Can't see why anyone would contribute now, given it still may not fly. Think I'll have another look closer to the close.

Even if you're not worried about whether a loan will fly or not, what's the point in putting in any bids before a loan gets close to being fully taken up? I suppose the main risk is that a large bid comes in and takes all the remaining capacity.

Depends where the money's coming from; once I've qualified for my £5 from the Halifax, the cash may as well lie in my Assetz account.

But if you put it into a bid it's tied up until the auction either is drawn down or cancelled, whereas if you hold fire on bidding the funds are available in case an even more attractive investment opportunity comes along.

True. I put a bid in early partly because I supported the original request and didn't want to miss out on the re-listing, partly because I'm beginning to think life is too short to spend tripping from AC to FC to TC - thank God only 69 loans currently listed on FC - but mainly because I'm confident of an early drawdown on this one (yes, Andrew?).

On 28th Feb 2014 at 16:21 z asked: "when are we anticipating draw down? And, if loan fails to fill, though I doubt it this time round, would underwriting be instigated to allow prompt draw down?" ◦ On 1st Mar 2014 at 09:13 Assetz Capital answered: "Drawdown at the end of March is anticipated, and any delays to this time frame on the part of borrower or his creditors will be covered by cashback to lenders. Underwriting could be used to fill the auction, depending on progress."

There's a few days to go on this one but it's only 20% funded with a 14% pa return. Am I missing something here?

Maybe the fact that some other loans are on the platform & may seem more secure? I don't really know, I'm making a bad guess most likely. I've opted out myself for other reasons that are unrelated to the prospects of the business or the 'extra' security now offered, which would have certainly been tempting for me to put a decent bid in, funds permitting.

PS I'm certain there will be underwriting somewhere along the line. It seems underwriters are quite happy to fill the gaps, large & small, as they materialise, at the moment provided the loan has a sound foundation.
