When the Lottery was launched 20 years ago I was amazed that with the technology available at the time the system required keeping a slip of paper which could be lost or stolen (edit: or washed). I have never bought a ticket as such. As soon as a subscription service was launched I signed up to it. Another advantage is that if you play the same numbers each draw you do not risk them coming up on the one occasion when you were on holiday or whatever. Now over 20 years later despite all the advances in technology Camelot still don't know who they owe £33 million to. Amazing.

I think camelot are very clever, this story is giving them free publicity. How many people have gone and double checked their slips (or whatever they're called). This is putting emotion into it and most people like to feel that even if it's just to complain about the admittedly almost medieval slip of paper system. As long as it's in peoples minds there's a chance that they'll go and buy one this week.

I always play on-line now, so no tickets can get into the washing machine.
This also prevents being "caught on camera" buying a ticket from your local shop. And it saves having to go outside or having to go through the wardrobe.

Yep - don't waste it on the national lottery. Yeah, I know, but where's the fun? I could loan it to a scrapyard, a posh restaurant, a top-tier law firm, a bike shop, a student lodging house, a garden centre, a struggling hotel, an 'absolute disaster' renovation company (the clue was in the name) ............ or I could change it all into 2p's and feed it into those slide machines at the amusement arcade.

Is that the amusement arcade in Yorkshire?

Before P2P, savers put a guinea in a piggy bank, now they smash the banks to become guinea pigs.

The winning ticket should have numbers 26,27,46,47,52,58, but the washed ticket will be 6,7,46,47,5,58. All washing powders are designed to remove all traces of numbers 2's.
