I'm used to month-end Zopa anomalies, as their hamsters creak under the strain of entirely predictable load, but it's mid-month and I've just returned from being away for four days. As a result I've not updated my tracking spreadsheets since last Thursday, and I find that my "Total money in Zopa" is less than it was when I left. Re-lending is on, I haven't deposited or withdrawn any funds, I think that (at least in theory) all of my loans are covered by the Safeguard fund (although I can find nothing about this on the website at the moment), and I have no written off / hardship loans.
So why the "loss"? Has anybody else seen something like this?
It's not remotely material, it just bothers me when I can't see / struggle to understand the reasons for apparent fluctuations in "hands off" products and platforms like Zopa.......
Cheers,
RM

Could it be arrears < 4 months old (when the Safeguard fund should step in)?

A squirrel whispered to me that Zopa's processing fell over (again!) last night. It means the numbers you see will not stack up until they complete the processing run - presumably this morning sometime. Nothing lost, other than a bit more Zopa credibility.

I see the repayments from last night and I believe tonights (accelerated) repayments have now been processed late this afternoon. I do wonder when ZOPA will fix these regular repayment run "glitches". They have become so regular I now assume it is yet another IT issue rather than contact ZOPA directly. Given the website did not indicate they were performing a day time repayment run (catch up/correction) I assume at least some newbies would have been a little alarmed to see their ZOPA balances falling.

Yeah. It's not very professional.

I emailed them to complain that, while I realised it was probably a processing run taking a while, there was no flag to indicate that the balance shown was incorrect.
They replied as follows:
"Thank you for your email. I can confirm the reason for the momentary drop in your total figure was caused by a repayment processing issue we experienced on Monday night, which meant that those repayments were actually processed on Tuesday afternoon. This meant that some lending accounts were effected (sic) in a very similar manner to the repayment run delay that you mentioned.
Having looked at your account, I can see that the £xxx has been reinstated and everything is operating as it should. Due to the relatively short time period the issue existed for, Zopa didn't implement the customary repayment run discrepancy alert as the problem was resolved later that day.
I apologise for any inconvenience that was caused during this time, but once again I can confirm that everything on your account is operating correctly and your repayments are up to date."
I have replied to say, categorically, that if the balance isn't in fact the balance the "customary repayment run discrepancy alert" should of course be displayed no matter how short-lived the discrepancy, since we rely on the balance shown when managing funds and if the balance shown is incorrect, we need to know.
I have absolutely no idea why Zopa would think the explanation highlighted in red is satisfactory or any kind of explanation at all, frankly.

As a postscript, I also take issue with the use of the word "momentary" in their response to me. It was not, by any stretch of the imagination, "momentary". The error persisted for an extended period of time and if I weren't used to Zopa's constant errors and problems I would have been very alarmed indeed.

I am glad to see someone got an apology from Zopa for the problem...

Lucky for Zopa they don't have a company endorsed forum where new lenders might come accross this sort of comment. It might have put all the new ISA lenders off...
