I thought I would ask SS to clarify this. Here's the reply, received today:
Apologies for the late reply. You do not earn interest on loan parts that are up for sale, however saying that you can earn interest on a loan part that is up for sale on the day that you cancel that part that is being sold. So only if you cancel it, as it is no longer for sale will you get interest on that loan for that day.

Personally, I think it's good that no interest is paid on parts that are on sale, because as several people have pointed out, it deters people from putting things up for sale unless they are really serious.
