All
I just wanted to update you on where we are with this. I am still working on the presentation of the data. What I have found is that while there is an industry* standard way of reporting, each platform is taking their own view on how to interpret that. I'm going to re-write the rules and present proper meaningful data.
Bear with me.

You thinking inside the box, skippers? You've landed your wise words into Andrew's quote! (Easy to do, particularly when trying to write after a lengthy quotation. I've often failed to drop my cursor below the quotation, and ended up actually in it.)

You thinking inside the box, skippers? You've landed your wise words into Andrew's brilliant and erudite quote, he really is a remarkable chap! (Easy to do, particularly when trying to write after a lengthy quotation. I've often failed to drop my cursor below the quotation, and ended up actually in it.) The problem is, those quotes are open to abuse. Thanks for the kind words though.

I often wondered why quotes are editable. It should be impossible. Admin Does the forum platform have settings which can be altered to prevent this possibility?

I haven't ferreted around having a look but, seeing as it's all editable BBCode (which is just flat text), I think the answer is "no". Personally I have no problem where somebody obviously and jokingly does it, as andrewholgate did above with the colour change. However, if somebody does it in an attempt to deliberately mislead, that I think would be a no no.

I think apart from the problem of putting the intended comment inside the bit they are trying to quote (as above) which happens quite frequently, and most people understand what was intended, the vast majority use the editing function on quotes appropriately. I can only recollect one instance where somebody deliberately tried to miss quote a person, and this was dealt with by the mods. So on the whole it works well, if you see it being misused, report the post and the mods can deal with it.

Unfortunately not. It is just one of a number of issues with forum software such as this which makes it less than ideal for discussing regulated financial investments.
Do we have any twitter/facebook users that would care to comment ? Could a retweet on twitter be similarly edited ? Is there a mechanism on facebook for re-quoting content and if so could it be edited ? (Apologies for dragging this thread off topic, but this feeds into a wider discussion I'm having of p2p & social media in the context of the FCA guidance on the subject)

To avoid any controversy, I won't quote the above; but no - you cannot edit retweets or shared posts on Facebook when posting them yourself.

Just for clarity, I jokingly changed the post. Not sure what I have started, but it was done intentionally and I even changed the text colour to highlight the fact!!

He's getting defensive! I do note that he hasn't dispatched the case of bananas yet (promised in exchange for letting him alter my post, and then pretending I "liked" it!)

He's getting defensive! He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy! I do note that he hasn't dispatched the case of bananas yet (promised in exchange for letting him alter my post, and then pretending I "liked" it!) I like your Python quote in there.
