It is bad enough that I have to prove I am a human every time I try to buy something on the SM, but it is behaving weirdly today. Once I have selected the 3 pictures at first, it adds more and I have to keep clicking until no more pictures with rivers...
There was some nice activity on the SM but could not buy anything.
I think this should be improved. Like investors with cash on their accounts should be exempted from the Captcha thing.

The reCAPTCHA is a good idea in principle, but when you get what seems like 20+ rivers or street numbers in a row (often followed by a second reCAPTCHA after that one) it can be quite frustrating. I don't think Google designed the system for situations where time is of the essence.

Agree it can be a pain, but it does level the playing field.
In my view it is a necessary evil.

I am a new investor but was fine with it until recently. At the begining, I had to prove i am human only rarely.
Now I have to do every time and since today, once I have selected the 3 pictures with a river, they add new ones and then other ones.
I am pretty much excluded from the SM as things stand now.

Perhaps someone could explain to an old fart like me the necessity of Capchas on SS. I have to confess that I really don't understand why it is needed on this site and not say on on-line banking for example.

They are not there for security in so far as to prevent unauthorised access, but to try and force human intervention into the buying process. Without them, it would be possible to create scripts/macros that automated the process of buying loan parts thus achieving in milliseconds what a human would take many seconds to complete.

A bit more than "possible"! Before SS reacted to widespread lender angst by adding Captcha to the SM buying process, several automated bots were hoovering up pretty much anything offered for sale before humans could react.

And were it not for pre-funding, the primary market would have gone the same way - new loan, bid £x00,000; elapsed time ... < 2 seconds.
But to answer the OP, there are a range of different captcha options (to confuse the bots) .. including the 'replace all rivers/storefronts/house numbers with new pictures', the 'type the letters you see', the 'tick umpteen pictures' (which you are sometimes allowed to get one wrong! as long as you get it wrong like a human would .. i.e. dither a bit). (Not sure if Gorillas are allowed to get bananas wrong though?). Which of these you get is random. And no, Google did not have 'speed is important' in mind when they built the system.

Going back to the original question...
Needing to click on the Captcha until all images of a particular type do not reappear is not new. It's just not very common. I tend to find this happens after I have been completing the Captcha many times in the same day.
At around the same time I might also start getting Captchas that ask me to identify road signs or street numbers. And if I keep going I eventually get to the point where multiple correct solutions are required. On a few occasions I have been asked to complete 10 or more Captchas before I can progress. Needless to say I don't get the loan part when this happens.
Things tend to reset themselves after a period of inactivity (maybe the following day).

Things tend to reset themselves after a period of inactivity (maybe the following day). Agreed, normally resets within 24 hours.
For those on dynamic (as opposed to static) IP addresses, a reboot of the router to attempt to force a new IP address to be allocated by your ISP may achieve the same thing.

As others have noted, the 'reappearing pictures' tend to come-up if you have been fairly active. I have found if you click for a new recaptcha, you get a 'normal' one - probably to late for that particular occasion, but should mean the following one will be standard picture sets......

Anyone know why the Captcha has stopped working on Firefox (33.1.1) Forunately still works on Chrome but it's a pain logging in twice. Brian

Brian Crikey, I wonder why you are using such an old version of Firefox? I think that the latest stable release is 46.0.1, however, I don't know if this is relevant to the problem that you have experienced. Do you have Javascript disabled in Firefox?

I confirm that Google Captcha is still working for me on Firefox version 43.0.1.
