F***ing Cheek. Verification information provided 2 days ago. 33 year old (to the day: happy anniversary Mrs. Guff) joint bank account issue no doubt and customer services have sent a "How do you rate our support" e-mail. What support? The bloody account is still not verified.

I can see this one from the point of view of Fair Compromise. They probably have to bring in automated withdrawal account verification as part of the FCA process currently underway. There must be an enormous amount of regulatory bureaucracy to work through - all the big p2p platforms are taking a long time to get through it. FC are using Call Credit, one of the credit reference agencies to verify bank accounts and it is a very efficient process for any account opened since about 2000. Older accounts' details aren't on Call Credit. SteveT 's better experience with an old account is possibly due to his bank adding his details to Call Credit when converting the account to the interest-paying one he mentions. Once the linked account details are stored on the FC system it should be quicker to make withdrawals and avoids any risk of making a mistake entering details. My current account is an old one too. I didn't want to share a full statement, so I uploaded just the top of a statement to FC. I used the online upload they offer rather than email which is less secure (and shouldn't really be offered). I did it after 5pm, and by 6pm my account was verified and added to the system. They are offering options for account ID including uploading an online banking screenshot or sending a photocopy by post. It could have been better with hindsight to improve the messages explaining why some accounts won't go through electronic verification, and allowing existing customers a month's notice so withdrawals will not be held up while verifying the account. I wish my bank would put my account details on Call Credit, as I have had much bigger hassle elsewhere with not being able to get my identity verified by organisations that rely on Call Credit. I even have an overdraft with them that I use occasionally. I am looking into whether I can deal with Call Credit directly to get onto their system. The world increasingly relies on these checks. I think banks should be required to offer to put details on the credit reference agencies to make these things work properly.

metoo your explanation of the situation is more coherent than the one I got from FC ... "we need to verify your account because we need to verify your account" (!) was the gist of it. Followed by "we need to make sure the account is your name". It is, it always has been, and you were happy paying my money out to a stranger (er, me) up until last month. And "We partner with callcredit who are not able to verify some some accounts". Oh ... so fix that? I too got the "We'd love to hear your thoughts" survey. I don't think you do, right now!

They only succeed in winding us up. So you should tell them your thoughts in the survey! I kind of sympathise with the pleasant/poor folk whose job is to answer the phone/emails and are told what to say, but never have the whole picture because it wasn't worked out in advance what the problems would be or how people would react. I've come across this situation of "we've known you for years but now we have to assume we don't unless you can provide some reduculous 'proof' that any decent fraudster could get past" elsewhere before. It's usually regulatory rules being handed down from on high.

As I said in 'the other place' mine (and partner's) worked OK, but I still have an issue with Frantic Checks pulling this out of their hat overnight, rather than pre-announcing it, with a reasonable change over period for people who don't have a bank statement to hand (a month ought cover it). It's just symptomatic of the whole 'non listening bank' approach they've been taking recently.... and then they wonder why people are withdrawing money (at least they send us surveys which pretend to wonder why).

Has anyone actually managed to withdraw money since this change? I verified my account (by uploading a statement) on Thursday and then made a withdrawal, but it's still not in my bank account today, three working days later. I made many withdrawals to the same account before verification was required and they always arrived the next working day.

A withdrawal I requested to my (verified) account on Saturday morning has arrived as I expected this morning. Did you receive a confirmation email from FC when you requested the withdrawal?
