Need to pick from the collective brain please, I am travelling to Ireland a lot lately so find myself changing money in to Euros a lot which I proceed to be losing out with the exchange rate offered (I tend to go to John Lewis as they offer a competitive rate). Basically as this situation is going to continue then I have looked into getting a Euro current account but I am struggling as everywhere seems to require me to have a residence in Ireland.
Does anyone know of a bank or such that I can get a Euro account with? Obviously I am looking for one that doesn't have extortionate charges otherwise it isn't beneficial to me.

I can't help with your actual question, but had you considered a pre-paid currency card which tend to offer exchange rates pretty close to wholesale spot rates ?
There are various available - I use Caxton FX MasterCard www.caxtonfx.com/currency-cards/why-use-a-currency-card which vcan hold multiple currencies simultaneously and has no hidden charges (or at least it didn't last time I looked)

I have one of these and was happy with it for many years, but not the last couple. The exchange rates for converting between GBP and EUR are now very poor. If you have any EUR income it useful, I used to have some shares which sent me EUR dividend cheques and paying them into Citi was great. It might be possible to use one of the FX companies to switch into EUR, I tried to use it for USD, but they can't easily do it (not worth it for less than $25k, which is way more than I spend on holiday). It should be easier with EUR. I think that Halifax credit card is one of the best options for everything other than cash withdrawals, but even then, if you pay your credit card in advance these are pretty good too.

If you do manage to get a Euro account, I'd recommend Transferwise.com.

Consider Currencyfair. While not a current account it can hold the other currency after you exchanged it (unlike Transferwise)

I use a Halifax Clarity Credit card. They use the middle market rate. See Money Saving Expert for other cards.
Plus a WeSwap preloaded debit card to draw cash and benefit from flat exchange rate also.

Might be worth checking out Revolut revolut.com/ which apparently uses interbank exchange rates, doesnt charge fees even on cash withdrawls (up to £500) Here's MSE page which rates it as a top pick (with Weswap) Travelex Supercard might be an option when it actually launches (pilot closed yesterday)
