Diamonds; the industry is in some crisis because industrial diamonds are now so good. Plus even the coloured diamond market ( a recent fashion blip) is affected because with vapour deposition it is possible to colour industrial diamonds. NB recent large diamond auctions have failed.
Certainly not a safe place
You could look at other metals than gold
However the only real value is in the "sweat of man".

Property valuations should now take into account the Brexit OR as lenders we should take a % off the valuations anticipating a decline in commercial (and perhaps residential) property prices - beware the LTV

For decades DeBeers maintained an artificial market by restricting the supply released to the market. This process is continues by the oligopoly (including governments) who control the market today, but arguably (especially given the unstableregimes involved) this will eventually be broken and values of all but the rarest plummet.

With all these funds being in trouble and clear issues with Foreign Investment, does anybody know where the Russians/Chinese are running off to with their investments? Would be a good guide as to where the next boom is going to be and whether to risk following suit or steering clear? Gold and bitcoin I’ve held gold through it’s highs and lows since 2009 and believe that it is an essential part of a portfolio in today’s financial world of smoke and mirrors. I wouldn’t touch bitcoin with a barge pole.

A good interview with Aberdeen CEO Martin Gilbert on Bloomberg TV this morning, he has an interesting view on the future of property and deals with their reasoning behind offering clients to take funds out but at a 17% discount, he also believes there is foreign investment still around due to weak pound. via this link.
