More flight to safety? More equity falls (in emerging markets?)? Lower / negative yields on US / UK / German / Japanese govies? Specific Turkey equity exposure? Banks / hedgies with Turkish exposure?
And that's without knowing how it plays out.
And I have friends in Istanbul. They are, understandably, very nervous.

More trouble in what is becoming a very dangerous and troubled World.
Have you managed to contact your friends to make sure they're safe?

Bit of a half-hearted coup attempt by all accounts. When I went to bed last night it was doom and damnation and when I got up this morning it was all over.
If you have 2 tanks and 20 soldiers on the Bosphorus bridge and 100 civilians walk towards you, then there are 2 choices:
1) shoot them all (Tiananmen square style), or
2) Give up and go back to barracks
Pleased to see that the second option prevailed. Once film footage gets out of 20 people sitting on a tank whacking the driver with a stick, it is fair to say the game is up.

Have you managed to contact your friends to make sure they're safe? Yep. For all its annoyances Facebook and its instant messenger app are brilliant. Come to think of it, its "I'm safe" thingamajig after terrorist attacks or natural disasters is pretty useful too. They are all safe and sound. One of them is a new mum. Her husband is a Brit who's over here at the moment. She was, quite reasonably, a little nervous.

If things continue the way way they are going, we're going to have to face fact that to defend the choices and the freedoms we enjoy and regretfully we may need to use more than sticks. I for one would choose to defend and protect what we hold special just as these free Turkish people have done, putting themselves at risk and in some cases in the line of fire to stand up for their Country. Yes, I'll say it again I am very pleased and relieved that your friends are safe.
