While FC sleeps Insolvency News has been kind enough to highlight the intention of this recent (Feb 2014) £150K borrower to appoint administrators.

This sort of news gets me racing to check on my exposure - fortunately or skilfully, none. I cannot find what it was about so can someone jog my memory please?

Social housebuilder in Wales, funds needed to buy more land and develop their new builders merchants, claimed to have good order book and good land bank. Backed by PG from MD (yes, I know) and guarantee from parent company. Looked ok to me. Downgraded before 1st payment following a CCJ which company immediately said they had applied to have set aside.

Time for a referendum on Welsh independence yes? (With only the English allowed to vote, of course 8>.... come to think of it, how come we (English/Welsh) don't get a vote on whether we want to keep Scotland??).

(With only the English allowed to vote, of course 8>.... come to think of it, how come we (English/Welsh) don't get a vote on whether we want to keep Scotland??). Could not agree more on both points. Parts of Wales have just been awarded a further two billion pounds by the EU which they will no doubt waste just like the previous Objective One money (£2.7B) they were given a few years back. It is time for England to let Wales go and more particularly now that it has gained the reputation of being the "Begging Bowl of Europe" as far a Brussels is concerned.
On a more serious note. Most of my serious losses on FC have come from Welsh investments, Crappy Scrappy and Be*t B*x B*rs to name but two. Fortunately I avoided 4907 but valerieb you have my sympathy.

On this one the risk band has been removed, and payments are up to date (2 made of 36). FC presumably therefore do not need to get into gear until its chasing time. Next payment due 12th May.

Probably because we might go on to demand a vote on Northern Ireland. The Welsh do seem to punch above their weight in the default category. When I look at new loans, if they are Welsh, Irish, Cornish or Cumbrian I do tend to look a bit more carefully - but not Scotland for some reason. This is odd when you consider the failed Darien scheme of 1698-9 which forced the Scots to sell themselves to the English. Good luck to them in the bid for freedom, the chance has been a long time coming.

Thanks. Cannot recall it. Perhaps I was outbid or absent during this auction.

I felt somewhat aggrieved that the Scots could so easily walk away from the Westminster W*****s, while the rest of us are stuck with them. Until, that is, I read the Nats analysis of the issues, and realised how much their blind hatred of the English had distorted their views. It will be out of the frying pan and into the fire. And the rest of the UK will be diminished as well. Losers all round.

The Scottish desire for independence was stirred many years ago by a certain female prime minister, who also has responsibilities for turning Wales and the North of England into economic wasteland. Unfortunately for these areas many of their elected politicians have been so deep into their own corruption that they have failed to notice, or care.

Meanwhile, if the application failed to mention relevant facts, e.g. court proceedings, FC won't want to know. But we do.

What do we have from Scotland - haggis, bagpipes, Burns night, tax exile film stars and of course the Bay City Rollers.

To name but a few - Writers/poets (Robbie Burns, James Boswell, RL Stevenson, Scott), Economists (Adam Smith, Hume, Law, Cairncross), Auld Land Syne, Inventors/engineers (Bell, Dewar, Watt, Telford, Baird), Explorers/colonists/missionaries/founders of empire (Livingstone, Park, Mackenzie etc). Look at the names of places across the globe (especially North America, Australia and NZ) which commemorate the impact the Scots have had in exploration and development. I would think they have had an impact on the sciences and arts out of all proportion to their population level. But most have needed the wider culture and larger economy of the United Kingdom in which to develop and thrive. The resourceful Scots would be a great loss to this country, and (I believe) they would lose immensely by retreating into a Scottish-obsessed isolation. Not Scottish, nor with any Scottish antecedents to my knowledge, but, being British, Scottish culture is a part of my culture too.
