How are people feeling about this loan? FS have made the sales pitch look good. I don't know much about boats but if the build is going as planned and the expected value of the boat is good then I don't mind going in for a small chunks of this one. My only concern is the build doesn't progress to completion, the boats value would be significantly reduced. I suppose it could be compared to a DFL...

I suppose it could be compared to a DFL... I think that's a reasonable comparison. The main difference I see is that the GDV of a property development probably is a lot easier to estimate than the GDV of this boat -- a unique item with a very limited market. I expect it would be worth a lot more if it's a successful record breaker than if it turns out to be an also-ran. Of course, that result won't be sure until after the loan is repaid, so it might be irrelevant. But what if the sea trials are so disappointing that breaking the record looks unlikely? Would the promoters still be able to raise enough sponsorship to pay off this loan?

Yep, sunk unless more positive news. Currently it seems to be a part built boat using unproven technology with no sponsors and already delayed in build.
