Here is a list of inappropriate words that could get you into trouble with the mods. Obviously, I have had to hide some letters to avoid being told off **** ***** ****** ******** **** **** ****** **** ****** **** ********* **** ****** **** ******** **** ****** **** **** ******

Very careless posting. You've spelt the fourth and eleventh words incorrectly on your list. Improvement in literacy will be appreciated, please.

Can you explain ********* as I have never heard that before and wouldn't want to use it incorrectly.

It would be appreciated if **** and ***** can also be avoided.

As always, context is everything (well, almost) and lets face it, you could accurately call anyone ********* if sufficient evidence of *********ness can be demonstrated. It doesn't have to be nice to be true. As for ******, much depends on whether it is being used as a noun or an adjective. Visitors/immigrants from ********************** always have problems with ****, which, translated from their mother tongue, means **** ** ******* **** (but in a nice way) whereas, for the more sensitive amongst us, it just leaves a rather nasty taste in the mouth. Then there is the problem of regional variations. Call someone from Cornwall a ********* ***** and he'll probably slap you in the face and pour a pint over your head. The same expression attribute to a northerner could see you slapped warmly on the back followed by an offer to stand you the next pint! Never make the mistake of transposing the two words as this could result in hospitalisation anywhere. Many of us find ourselves in a quandary as to the correct spelling of ******. ****** is the most common usage according to the OED, but ******* is equally valid, more so than the Middle English ********, which apparently fell out of fashion early in the last century. Usage of any form is not considered 'nice' anywhere outside the Public School environment, where they're apparently not considered a term of abuse. Perhaps we could learn from Humpty Dumpty, the originator of the Infinitely Variable Lexicon (“When I use a word, it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less.”) as criticism of the usage of any (in deed, all) of the above list could be easily deflected for obvious reasons. The problem would, of course, be in persuading the mods of the benefits of this more liberal linguistic approach.

I note that you have allowed **** to challenge the status quo elsewhere. That was close, if you had used s****s and q** in a sentence with music and good that would definitely deserve a reprimand
