For all those who gave up when the rate fell to 4.6%. Maybe the granddad of P2P has some fight left.

Back down to 5.1% in June, while Ratesetter has been consistently above 6% for 5 year loans for some weeks now (between 6.1% and 6.3% as of week commencing June 9th).

Now over 6.5% on RS, but more importantly on RS you have some CONTROL over what rate your money goes out at (or doesn't). If I want to cede all control, there is always Santander, Barclays, etc. The whole point of P2P is that the middle man butts out and doesn't control the process.

Judging by money loaned over the past quarter, Ratesetter is beating Zopa hands down. Looks like people are getting wise to Zopa abandoning true P2P lending and voting with their feet. Quite right too!

ZOPA refuses to gets its corporate head round the fact that while they want to be seen as the headline cheapest lender on the league tables, it is not they who are doing the lending - and although many lenders are not actually greedy regarding rates, I suggest very few lenders actually want to be the cheapest. Zopa has ignored its competitors for so long, I think it may be heading for trouble.

Zopa is a brand that people trust because it has been around for such a long time.

Unless you have your tongue firmly embedded in your cheek, i'm not sure longevity is a good basis for trust in this arena. I agree with oldgrumpy that the lenders might be more than miffed about the cheapest borrowing affecting our loans. Sadly the whole system from pensions to benefits etc seems to be a race to the bottom these days. I'm not sure Mr Carney has much of a clue either - I think i'll stick my head in the sand for a few years and see what comes up.

However ... (I suppose I must have drunk it in early childhood; my grandparents used to have it post WWII) Not now though ... might make me waz!)
