If you love them watch this video and own a slice of a future brand that could disrupt the total electric steam iron market

Are you tongue in cheek? I don't get it and anyway shouldn't it be on kickstarter?

Since my steam iron of 15 years standing is still being sold for £15 or so from Russel Hobbs, I find the idea of a £60 one frankly silly. This does nothing my old does not do.

.... This does nothing my old does not do. Apart perhaps from fail after only 2 or 3 years ? :-) In recent times i (we) are on our THIRD iron in about 6 years. And the prior 2 were not cheap, but that didn't stop the steam function failing in not much over two or 3 years on either of them. Despite reasonable levels of care and attention given to them. There is not even that much ironing done in our house (in relative terms). Likewise we are on our 3rd kettle in as many years as well. The first of that lot was a pretty expensive very good one: except clearly ultimate build quality. The second was a cheaper straight forward one. The third current one is now an even cheaper one, having given up expectations that in this day and age paying more is any guarantee of quality. We seem to have entered an age where it is considered ok to sell appliances as if they are disposable consumables. I have no particular desire to update my phone for the latest gizmo's every couple of years, so why on earth I should be expected to re-buy kettles/irons etc on that sort of cycle is beyond me.

..be fidled with (we are both professional engineers so it comes with the territory) The spelling or the bodging? Modern devices have much better energy & resource conservation, safety and even performance performance. Your old washing machine working properly would probably be unacceptable if launched today. Given that one gets some use out of a smartphone then even a 3 year old model isn't really ok (I know, my daughter reminds me constantly and in conscience she's right). otoh a 10 year old PC with enough ram running windows 7 PC (ie this one I'm using now) is completely acceptable; it depends then on what it is. All irons are hopeless, and there is a lot of room for a better one, although I suspect the solution lies more in the ironing board

Never mentioned washing machine performance performance?? I was generalising performance performance - meaning how well it does its job job

And printers where it's cheaper to buy a new machine than buy new cartridges!

This is going backwards. It may have a 'powerful steam function' but to do that all that water is in the iron, it must weigh a ton when full. My 15-year-old steam generator iron does that but I have a litre of water in a separate tank.
And it's an ugly blob!! Who convinced him it was a 'funky' look?
