Which scenarios can result in funds locked in QAA? A torrent of withdrawal requests that overwhelm the liquidity of the account. ... or AC pre-emptively setting withdrawal limits in anticipation of such a torrent of withdrawal requests (when liquidity is merely thin, rather than having completely evaporated, so that all withdrawal requests within the new limit can be met in full). If introduced early enough, the withdrawal limits may, at least initially, be sufficiently high that most "normal" users don't consider them relevant at all. Other institutions that operate accounts with the appearance of instant liquidity but only a fractional cash reserve have at various times managed (or at least attempted to manage with varying success) such crises by limiting the amount that may be withdrawn in one day, so there's plenty of precedent.

People taking cash out in march and April to fund ISA''s etc? That's an interesting thought. I wonder if AC will build up extra cash in the QAA as the end of the tax year approaches in order to prepare for this.

Last year numerous loans on manual account had cash available as people sold. Good opportunity to buy. Not sure will be the same this year as more cash around to suck up the surplus.
