Has anyone else received a letter in the post from FC asking for information about the funds you have invested in FC?
I got one this morning and they require certified supporting documentation...principally a payslip from the last 3 months which is certified by an unrelated person who doesn't live with you.
I have a problem with this given I do not have a job. After discussion I have supplied a historic P60 but they insist it is certified. I also have an issue with this as I do not want to show a friend one of my P60's. I also think it's a complete nonsense asking someone to certify a print out of a document when they have no idea if it's correct. How would they know if I got paid £X or £Y in any given year. Compliance gone mad.

This sounds like "Nosey Your Customer" to me.
If they were worried about the source of the funding, they should have asked for proof AT the time of deposit, not some time later.
How long is it since you funded your FC account with suspicious money?

My dealers tell me they'll provide whatever certification I require, so long as I can keep providing the merchandise!

Compliance gone mad. This doesn't seem to make sense. The existence of a recent payslip isn't proof that the source of funds is legitimate, especially if the money was deposited (as implied elsethread) years ago. If you were depositing £2000 monthly I could see them assuming that this was from income and asking for proof of income, but if that was the case a historic P60 shouldn't be an acceptable substitute.

Forum members might like to know that FC have confirmed to me that they will accept original documents in the post if that is preferred to certified copies, and they undertake to return the originals. Certainly preferable to me in terms of saving the aggravation and expense of certification.

Is this the same sort of thing that a bank last week was castigated for (istr closing church bank accounts due to them being unable to show where donations came from)? In which case is it surely not an over-interpretation of money laundering rules? Jack P

After a week of discussions FC have relented and are now accepting an uncertified scan of a historic P60 form. My argument was that taking a photocopy of the original P60 (which in itself is just an A4 printout) to get someone to sign to testify that it was a copy of the original I had already sent them is a bit pointless. They conferred with their legal/compliance department who are now satisfied with the uncertified scan.
All in all I was impressed with their responsiveness and how they handled themselves.

Just had the same letter. My last deposit was ages ago, but it seems to important that I send them a payslip from the last 3 months!

What are the dire consequences if you ignore the letter?

It doesn't really say. It says they are compulsory and give me a month to comply. One share platform I had blocked me from logging in after I ignored such a letter. I've been slowly selling up and leaving FC, so I am thinking about speeding this up. But I will need the tax statements and I do have quite a bit in default.

In these days of scanners and high quality home printers how on earth do you tell if a document is authentic ?

Even worse than that, I told them that my payslip and bank account are online only and they said that a screenshot would be fine! What is the point in that? I am getting sick of this sort of stuff designed to make my life more frustrating, but of no consequence to anyone doing anything dodgy.

In these days of scanners and high quality home printers how on earth do you tell if a document is authentic ? Easy, most average-joe's can't work the 'Print Both Sides' option!
