bots are quicker than hand, hence another failure.  FS is becoming increasingly difficult to buy any decent loans on.

As mason says this was a renewal, and I think there was only around £3000 of availability, which meant with a £500 bid restriction there was potentially scope for only 6 lenders to get a slice. FFF takes 3 to 5 seconds to achieve a result, so the loan filling in 5 seconds sounds about right.

FS have stated their policy is to vary the bid restriction as a % of available amount to give both large and small lenders (when averaged over the quite significant deal flow) the opportunity to achieve their investment objectives.

I missed out on a small property renewal last week (with no bid restrictions) as I bid for a £2000 slice, and with hindsight I suspect there was less than £2000 available at the start. (And by the time I refired the bid with a smaller amount it was full). C'est la vie. It would though be better if FS indicated the renewal amount in advance (as per MT/COL) as it is pretty random ... its impossible to guess for example how much of the Bath renewal will be available tomorrow - its clear some people don't like it, but others will.
