"The bow is still stuck rock-solid at the moment in the slightly sandy clay," . How can the bow be stuck "rock-solid" if the other end has moved ? Does he have an interest in this taking as long as possible? Reminds me of hmmm....administrators ! Agreed, the language is unfortunate, that having been said things can get very weird in some situations eg ketchup!

Yep, that VesselFinder link showed it suddenly go parallel, then move a bit left, and it's now 4km up the canal.

Currently heading North at a rate of Knots, and just about to enter the great bitter lake (I assume it will stop there for insurance check over).
As if by chance, the first ship it will pass coming the other way on entering the lake is sister ship Ever Excel

The Egyptian government has siezed the Ever Given until an $900m compensation claim has been settled. The proposed figure includes a $300m salvage bonus and $300m for loss of reputation. The claim does not include the fees of the specialist salvage company brought in to help refloat the Ever Given, which the owner and another insurer expected to pay separately.

Looks like a deal has been agreed and the ship will be allowed to leave Egypt

I wonder if a couple of items I ordered from China on eBay in March might turn up ...

Seems Egypt have carved out a nice little deal for themselves... They provide the pilots and tugs, they guide the vessel through, and then when they foul the job up, they hold to ransom and get someone else to cough up! Nice work if you can get it (either that, or I've misunderstood the process). Saddened to read someone lost their life on the salvage operation though.

You forgot to add that they charge to use it in the first place

Perhaps the UK should try to colonise Egypt again, in order to take control, like in 1882?

Perhaps the UK should try to colonise Egypt again, in order to take control, like in 1882? Strange interpretation of the point I was making. Once more for emphasis... Egypt provided the Pilots to guide the vessel through. They now control the vessel's speed and navigation, not the ship's Master. When they royally screw up the job, they ransom the vessel's owner (and thereby his insurer) to pay for the damage they've caused. Perhaps that strikes you as right and proper. It doesn't me.
