When the Black Death visited Europe this was very much the same scene. Labour suddenly had the upper hand over capital, crops rotted in the fields, serfdom in many countries more or less collapsed and standards of work dropped as the unskilled moved into skilled jobs kickstarting major change and improvements in cities especially. I will not see the benefits of Covid but expect a fr few more shortages ofthings going forward, don't worry it happening all over the western world as stuff, the US has similar problems and they are not suffering from Brexit. Given the respective mortality rates of COVID-19 and the Black Death that might be considered a little melodramatic.

ah, but it also happened when little plagues came through Europe (there were a lot over the years), every time Capital lost out to Labour in different ways
also, if you listen to various people on the radio, it seems like making the kids walk to school is the next thing to a death in the family in their lives

which is probably why so many of them are chronically overweight and being led down a road of lifetime ill health.

Similar thing happened when Nigel Farage visited Europe as an MEP precipitating the collapse of the EU !

Can you spell it out in laymen's terms what this means? Simples: companies that would in normal circumstances not be allowed to "co-operate", in order to prevent anti-competitive (i.e. anti consumer/pro supplier) practices, are now allowed to talk to each other. presumably to optimise geographical distribution of the supply that is available. This from a govt that apparently thinks that one of the mantras of brexit is that we can better unleash the power of commercial competition without the yoke of EU regulation and governance. No, I don't know what the *** that means either. That's the bit I didn't/don't get. Why would they help each other? It sounds to me as though there's been a problem for many months and the only thing that has changed this week is the mass reporting of it. P.S. While I'm here, I wonder if the transport minister could imagine what customers of Barclays would do if the CEO of the company made an emergency statement which pretty well just said "....Your money is safe with us....There is no need to panic..." ?

The idea is lets say Esso speak to BP and agree that instead of both sending a tanker to Lowestoft and neither to Norwich BP send on to Norwich and Esso send 1 to Lowestoft so both areas have some fuel.

But that means both places have half the fuel they would normally have ? And in any case, their duty is to their owners which means surely the current situation is great for both of them so why try harder and work with your competitor ?

While there are branded tankers about there are also unbranded tankers, which happily fill up a variety of fuel stations. The only problem is Shell petrol is special and has wonder additives in it. Who knows and frankly who cares?

Or, as a friend of mine just suggested:- BP: "Got any drivers"? Shell: "lol no" BP: "same lol" Or alternatively:
BP: got any drivers?
Shell: hell yeh, we offered a £10k pay rise and poached them from you

Being retired has its advantages. 3 trips a week to the golf club (5 miles round trip) and 2 visits to the shops equates to about 30 miles a week in the car for a normal week. Currently have enough fuel in the tank for about 8 weeks.
Went shoping this morning and decided to do a tour of the 4 fuel stations within about 2 miles of where I live. One had run out of diesel, but the rest appeared to be operating as normal with minimal queues.
As they said in the media this morning, the problem appears to be worse in the bigger cities.

Locally to us zero fuel, doesn't bother me too much I have a little bit and really not intending to go anywhere. My daughter came home fairly empty on Friday expecting to fill up on the way home, nothing. She doesn't need to get into work every day (she can sort out a lot of things from home), but there are some at least contractual or potentially safety critical things she has to get into work to fix or figure out if there are any problems. Obviously health workers and many others are in similar positions, people just filling up with no need are really causing huge potential problems.
