Being retired has its advantages. 3 trips a week to the golf club (5 miles round trip) and 2 visits to the shops equates to about 30 miles a week in the car for a normal week. Currently have enough fuel in the tank for about 8 weeks.
Went shoping this morning and decided to do a tour of the 4 fuel stations within about 2 miles of where I live. One had run out of diesel, but the rest appeared to be operating as normal with minimal queues.
As they said in the media this morning, the problem appears to be worse in the bigger cities.
Yes, the situation in Merseyside is apparently not great. I say "apparently" because it doesn't particularly worry me. Like you, since lock-down my consumption has reduced markedly, and hasn't really recovered. I've got a Jaguar XKR, and it's currently doing about three months to the gallon.

I think that is the _only_ problem. Sky news were interviewing the boss of a company that runs a network of fuel stations across the country. He said one had seen a 500% increase in fuel sales on Saturday compared to the previous week.

The new temp work visas for HGV drivers are laughable! Despite being able to earn up to £1000 plus per month extra in the UK, Eastern European drivers say its not worth the upheaval for just 2 months work.
PS. I can swap a GP appointment for 20 litres of petrol.

It's bad here up the Welsh valleys, people need cars to get to work or for work ( because the public transport is poor /non existent ). Current average queue is 1-2 hours, and some people putting as little as £5 worth in ( must be using nearly that queueing ).
My Hermes courier says unless he can get fuel today he can't work tomorrow, and again Nurses etc who are at work during the day can't get the fuel which is being taken by the "scared of running out mob" who have the time to queue during the day. I spoke to an acquaintance who was in the queue yesterday ( I was walking past to go shopping ) and he said his" tank was 3/4 full but that would only last 3 weeks" so he was filling up "in case it gets worse".

Agreed and presumably most would need to give up their current employment or contract so they'd have nothing when they came back. 5000 also seems not many and just moves the deckchairs around Europe. They should (and should have) focused on getting more drivers trained up. But the government is not very competent so they'll just flap around for a bit and hope the queues die down. Didn't get your GP appointment comment ?

GP appointments & fuel are so scarce they could become commodities in a black market economy! I could write a line for wheeler dealer, black marketeer, Private Walker, in Dad's Army!

GP appointments about as rare as hens teeth round here my wife has just been offered the first available telephone consultation , 4 1/2 weeks away. If the doctor thinks she has b12 difficiency, very likely due previous on going heath issue and previous blood test , she can enter the que for nurse practitioner appointment for injection , 6 weeks.

Sorry to hear that . All I can say is it must vary tremendously by area. A week ago I was able to get a same day face to face appointment with a GP at my local practice. That followed my calling 111 (who were great), and a tele-consultation (which went as I expected it to - "ok, we better take a look"). (Don't ask, you really, really don't want to know).

I believe 111 have a fast track into GP appointments. They do, and I set that up at another GP as a contingency in case I wasn't able to get an appointment with my GP. In the end I was, so I called the contingency and cancelled it.

Just been speaking to an elderly friend who has a nasty cut on his arm.
Went to the Local Hospital ( via Taxi ) where they did a quick check then told him he was in the queue to be seen. at 8:00 pm they said that they would be closing in an hour so please arrange to get home, and to comeback in the morning ( another 2 taxi trips).
as a pensioner 4 £10 taxi trips in a week beyond him. Phoned GP and he can have an appointment in 2 weeks.
I'm taking him back to the hospital later this morning
