To be fair I'm not so sure Ireland actually wants the pleasure of a reasonably pissed-off large-group of Protestants suddenly being part of their country. (yes I understand the Irish constitution, but really?) Since 1999 it's said this, though that doesn't contradict your point I suppose: It is the firm will of the Irish Nation, in harmony and friendship, to unite all the people who share the territory of the island of Ireland, in all the diversity of their identities and traditions, recognising that a united Ireland shall be brought about only by peaceful means with the consent of a majority of the people, democratically expressed, in both jurisdictions in the island. Until then, the laws enacted by the Parliament established by this Constitution shall have the like area and extent of application as the laws enacted by the Parliament that existed immediately before the coming into operation of this Constitution.

There does seem a bit of a tendency to say if a non-Islamic/white person kills a stranger they are mentally ill, if a Moslem does it they are a terrorist.
This always makes me laugh, and provokes numerous "lively debates" with a psychiatrist friend of mine:- "In the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, a delusion is defined as: A false belief based on incorrect inference about external reality that is firmly sustained despite what almost everybody else believes and despite what constitutes incontrovertible and obvious proof or evidence to the contrary. The belief is not one ordinarily accepted by other members of the person’s culture or subculture (e.g. it is not an article of religious faith)". A psychiatrist hovering around the forum?? OMG !!!!! Everyone here is perfectly normal. What is a psychiatrist doing showing any interest here? They're always sticking their noses into other people's business. You can't get away from them. Right I'll just carry on and continue with my perfectly normal activities.

The threat is certainly being taken seriously, 10,000 police officers descending on Glasgow today, including 1000 armed officers. That’s 3,000 more than the G7 summit earlier this year.

G7 was a far smaller event than COP. There's going to be something like 25,000 participants in COP, together with almost all of the G7 heads of government and a good few others.

With which bit? That catastrophic climate change is imminent unless humanity as a whole extracts digit rapidly? Or that those going to COP25 are just going to flap mouths and do nothing substantive, like at all the previous 25?

Really taking this seriously aren't they
G20 meeting today in Rome, tomorrow COP26 in Glasgow.
would it not have set an example on wasted trips it they had said lets have both in Glasgow and save a bunch of air miles, or was a trip to Rome more important than that

The Glasgow meeting was organised well before the G20
A small part of Glasgow is now part of the UN and is officially no longer part of the UK. Even UK police may no longer enter the area without permission from the UN or to save life.
The Glasgow meeting is actually being chaired by two countries Italy and the UK. The G20 meeting is in Italy as a preparation for the UN meeting known as COP26 being held in the UK
Hence it makes sense
What is far more frustrating is that China is not moving on its promises
likely result... blah blah blah

Gonna get jumped on I fear but a/ nothing is certain, b/ some humility needed when expressing "facts" and c/ an emergency is something that typically needs doing in seconds e.g. a medical emergency. Years and decades (if it needs to be done) is definitely not an emergency. d/ Very much dislike scientific groupthink as I'm probably about to experience on this forum haha 2/ Yes they'll flap about and enjoy their priviliege. Lets hope they don't spread covid everywhere.

Emergency is not necessarily a short term crisis, it is just not what it means in English, however it does mean immdiate action is required
I don't intend to feed the troll today, not even ones from Savushkina Street

I think you've just illustrated quite well what is wrong with the climate change movement. You must be a russian spy or at least a troll to have your own opinion. That's why I think I said in another discussion with you why bother to debate with you? At least be civil.

That's why I think I said in another discussion with you why bother to debate with you? At least be civil. Not just the climate change activists, but all pressure groups nowadays seem to be losing the ability to remain civil. Whatever happened to tolerance and allowing other viewpoints to be heard in a civil manner? 'No Platform'ing and vilifying is the preferred way today, and I think we lose something going down that path.
