Simple question first.............. Can i pay my council tax over 12 months, instead of 10 months? UsuallyUnlike your last helpful response... nothing there about my question. Oh .. calm down.. The cost is usually split into 10 monthly payments. Contact your council immediately if you’re having trouble paying - they can help you, for example by spreading your payments over 12 months instead of 10.

The reason i ask is, i simply opted on the "My services" part of the council website to make direct debit payments based over 12 months... the council now say they gonna take me to court because i have under paid my council tax.

I changed the bank account I pay my dd from and the council automatically changed the payment to 12 months instead of 10. I can't change it back until next year.

With a direct debit the collector sets the amounts to be taken so it must be their fault. Did they take debits in February and March (wouldn't have on a 10 month schedule)? Are the amounts correct?

Mine ( Blaenau Gwent ) assumes 12 monthly payments, so much so they revert to 12 monthly payments every year. It's then impossible to change it until after the first payment has been taken

I assume there is a yearly amount due?

Make sure you send the court statements in advance showing your current "debt" etc as of 1st November and of course If you send it Thursday showing they took a payment in December too. You must of course redact the account number/ Sort code and your address. and make sure to write the case number on it.
If they persist in this stupidity then inform them you will counter claim for damages to your good name as being named as a debtor when you aren't isn't allowed.
Screen Shot the part of the Council website that allows you to change payments to over 12 months
You do not want this to go to court as they will add silly amount for issuing the summons attending court etc .
Is the number you are ringing the county court or the council revenues department ( the latter may be more helpful )
If the council won't discuss it tell then you will be taking it up with the local paper, as they hate bad publicity. Also contact your local councillor
