Will we see a bigger flower tribute for the amazing old lady than the other lady? 70 million blooms or even 100 mil?

Feels a little strange, never claimed to be a great royal fan, but I feel rather sad, I suppose at 63 years of age it's probably because I've never known another monarch. It will be a big change for anyone my age and younger. I do rather think Andrew has no chance of becoming a working royal again, can see the King streamlining the family and having less of the immediate line of succession on the payroll Yes same here , never really paid much attention to the royals but admire what the queen has done , given her entire life to the country. When it was announced last night , I must say I had a lump in my throat.

Is he King yet? Doesn't there need to be a corronation or something ? www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-62853708And while I'm here, how many weeks will my daily news roundup remain dull? Yes I'm sorry if that is perhaps disrespectful but I've never met her and find it hard to get emotionally attached. Its a genuine (yes NOT a gaslighting question registerme ) by the way. I'm assuming we have a funeral and a coronation to get through at the least before the pundits go back to talking about other stuff and you don't need to wade through several pages of a paper to read something that is going to affect people's lives.

official proclamation is tomorrow. ( I believe he became king immediately upon the Queens death )
I would guess coronation might not be until next year

I mean go to the bbc website, come off the front page bit, and on news select on which ever topic you like in the top banner: Business, War in Ukraine, Cost of Living. Apart from the BBC, which you hate anyway :-), I'm sure most other channels will get back to normal pretty quickly before the funeral, with a reroute back to the funeral for a couple of days when it is about to happen. I think the BBC have learnt some lessons from Prince Philips death. Maybe, maybe not. But it was always going to be wall to wall after EIIRs passing frankly.

Meanwhile at St Pauls Cathedral....
The God botherers have swung into action. And its all a little odd
Liz Truss does a trailer for a new horror film, something to do with Romans.
A rogue man in a kilt wanders up the aisle playing the bagpipes
And an elderly couple have a strange cushion and book race going the other way..
Strange days

There are lots of other tv channels, etc, if you don't want to have to look at all the strongly Queen Elizabeth information over the next week or so in the UK. It is a once in a lifetime situation so there is going to be a lot about it and how the future monarchy in the UK will go. But other news feeds are available or turn off for a while.

I don't need to turn it off. I'm not in anyway repulsed by it. It just takes up time that could be used for other topics. As for other sources what are you referring to? Anything that isn't spending a lot of time on the Queen/King is likely to be either foreign focused or be specially anti-royalist in nature. Definitely not UK mainstream viewing.

Fair play to France. When they pay their respects they do it well.

Princess Anne. Holyrood House as her mother's coffin is carried in. Dignity. A chip off her mother's block for sure.

Anybody wanting a pause from the period of Mourning (I am sad now, with no football)
A film called 'The Fortress' Korean with subtitles, currently on Amazon prime but most likely on Youtube somewhere might be an interesting choice. Not all that far off topic. Would be interested in anybody's thoughts on the similarities (or not depending on your take).

I agree. Paper notes would just have been replaced as they wore out (on about that timetable). Plastic notes last longer but there's no reason why they could not do the same, perhaps with a backstop date in 5-10 years. Charles is keen on green issues. Perhaps he'll have something to say about this behind the scenes. With coins, in pre-decimal days we had coins with the head of all monarchs back to Victoria (bar Edward VIII, whose coins never went into circulation). Lots of kids collected pennies for as many different years as they could find. I've still got mine somewhere. Believe Elizabeth was (remarkably) in fact the first monarch to appear on BoE notes. So there's isn't actually a precedent for replacing them.. "Images of the monarch on bank notes are a much more recent invention. Although bank notes began to be issued from the late seventeenth century, they did not come to predominate over coins until the nineteenth century. Only since 1960 has the British Sovereign been featured on English bank notes, giving The Queen a unique distinction above previous monarchs."www.royal.uk/coinage-and-bank-notes
