A Clarence House spokesman said: “Following last week’s accession, the operations of the household of the former Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall have ceased and, as required by law, a consultation process has begun. Our staff have given long and loyal service and, while some redundancies will be unavoidable, we are working urgently to identify alternative roles for the greatest number of staff.”

I think Clarence House might be run by the Crown Estates rather than the monarch personally. "The Crown Estate is an independent commercial business, created by an Act of Parliament, with a diverse portfolio of UK buildings, shoreline, seabed, forestry, agriculture and common land. The business generates valuable revenue for the government and over the last 10 years has contributed £2.6 billion to the Consolidated Fund."
"...the King is not involved in management decisions..."

Do Charlie's staff stay with him and move upwards, or do the Monarch's staff stay with the crown? Either Charlie's or Liz's have to go, there's no new senior member of the family.

Indeed but you'd think that at this time with most everyone paying their respects and closing everything, they could at least wait a couple of weeks before starting the consultation or perhaps not starting it and moving them elsewhere.

There are some clear moral, ethical and legal issues here. The basis of these are that you have to tell people as soon as possible after the decision has been made, and that this is not a final decision only the initiation of a possible decision.
I have had to make many many people redundant, three of whom had life changing experiences at about the same time, one sold a house, one dumped her husband and one was badly beaten up by her boyfriend resulting in her being homeless and vulnerable.
Of these I got the information out one day early, one one hour too late and one a day too late. I still wish I could have got them all out one day earlier.
Making changes of this nature are not playing with people's lives they are people's lives.
You may feel Clarence house is being cruel, I think they are being kind, but then I have a fair bit of experience in the matter.

Maybe they do have a soul.

"Sack before Xmas, not after" as they say. Completely agree with all the above.

I haven't been following this thread, just popping in from time to time. Just to say that it's nice to see so many nations, races and age groups represented in the crowds lining the route of the cortege and queuing to pay their respects.

...queuing to pay their respects.
Ah, yes... The queue. Fer the love of gawd! They say they'll stop new people joining at 5 miles. Four and a quarter miles. Standing there, shuffling forwards, for hour after hour after interminable hour - night, day, weather - just to be hurried past a box. Madness. Utter madness.

Speaking as somebody who thinks if there is one person in front of me, it is a long queue. I mostly agree. I do however 'get it', there is clearly a lot of people who like 'being there' at moments that will always be remembered (well at least for a while). It everybody thought the same on all matters life would be very dull. Interestingly the BBC were using kilometres earlier in the day, clearly the queue was not a big enough number in miles to impress. They seem to be back to Miles again now it is longer.
