You can get around the FT paywall as follows: Google the title of the article ("P2P platforms seek ‘urgent’ UK government help to keep lending" in this case) in an Incognito / In Private tab, then click on the link to the FT article from the Google results page.
The direct URL will not work, even in Incognito mode.

With at least two previous bankruptcies under his belt, I'm sure a man of his experience knows how to "protect" any assets should his latest ill-conceived legal action not yield the desired outcome... he really should find himself a better solicitor.

The silence from MoneyThing on this matter is concerning.

New loans?

Nothing but error messages again for me, although I was late to the party... missed the first 10 minutes of availability and apparently the first 90% of the loan. Errors need fixing and limits need setting appropriately, otherwise the platform will just be too frustrating to bother with for buying on the primary market... I get a better return for time invested on Premium Bonds!

I just keep getting "The action couldn't complete because the system was busy with other ongoing requests. Please try again and if the error persists, contact Customer Services".
Giving up now, will try again in the morning if there is any left!

Britannia's trade for a small premium as they benefit from CGT exemption. The £16 price you are seeing will include VAT (gold is VAT exempt, silver is not), so not as big a premium as it may seem! Actually nowadays you can buy silver without paying VAT , eg here
I should add that I have never done this myself and just assume that it's legitimate, so please do your own DD etc . A simple Google search will bring up plenty of similar sites. So, if this is indeed the case, the £16 price quoted above would not attract VAT Yes, I have bought from the sister site of the one in your link (silver-to-go.com) in the past, although they are not as competitive as they used to be. thesilverforum.com is a good place to go for info if anyone is interested in purchasing physical precious metal coins / bars. "VAT Free" is a bit misleading as there is still an element of tax, but when buying from some European countries you can benefit from their lower tax rate which if I remember right is about 7% in the likes of Germany. You can also sometimes find second-hand silver from some UK sellers on the margin scheme which is another way to pay less tax on the purchase... but prices tend to get bumped up so that they are pretty close to the European prices regardless of how much of it is actually tax. Apologies for going a bit off-topic!

I also preregistered on Jan 18th (the day MoneyThing sent the email saying they were now accepting pre-registrations) and received a confirmation email back - no email or register button for me either. The £20k burning a hole in my current account is going to end up on another platform soon!

Based on the last few pages of this thread I'm starting to think that all platforms that allow manual loan selection should require lenders to self-certify as sophisticated investors at the very least (for whatever that's worth).
Valuations aren't always accurate. Borrowers aren't always honest. Father Christmas doesn't exist. Your capital may be at risk.
Not that I'm excusing BS valuations and borrowers trying to take advantage of this new money tree called P2P - but DYOR and go in with your eyes open. And yes, I'll be taking a loss on this one too... but only what I was prepared to put at risk.
