Is it a sign of how misogynist Sadiq Khan is that he forced her out, I've been told by a friend in London this morning that had the commissioner been male the force would be on strike by now because of "political interference" Same friend also says that Khan has assured Basu the job is his. If what your friend is saying is true then would it not support the case that she should go as she has clearly failed to adequately address any misogynistic tendencies within the ‘force’?

Contrast with the incompetent NHS Wales 'service'. I received a phone call out of the blue offering just one location, a mass vaccination centre in Cardiff, a 90 minute round trip by car. It was either that or try to arrange my own appointment nearer home, and, no, she didn't have a clue whether there were any closer centres, but offered me a phone number to try to find out and to arrange my own appointment. Well, I'd heard of others trying this number and never getting through to a human, so for the sake of my blood pressure I opted for the 90 min drive. Just as well, because I tried the phone number out of curiosity. Sure enough, you listen to plastic Annie droning on for 5 minutes about how important the jab is, whether you want to get it in Welsh, etc, etc, and finally how busy all the operators are and you'll need to call back another time... and then promptly cutting the phone off! You couldn't even hold on and wait in a queue. My initial instinct was correct. It was quicker to drive all the way to Cardiff and back than try to organise a jab closer to home. We'll no doubt shortly have to repeat this absurdity for my wife who's due hers soon. The same administration will no doubt be lecturing us next month about how environmentally conscious we ought to be. 🙄 And that that contrasts with my ‘Welsh’ experience. I fall within the 60-65 age group and I was notified of appointments for both of my first two jabs by post giving me c. 7-10 days notice. I had them on 18 February and 6 May. 3 November I received postal notification of appointment for booster jab which I had on 9 November. I acknowledge that being located in Cardiff may have been an advantage but I also have relatives of various ages (37-64) around South and West Wales who have all been able to arrange appointments without any significant inconvenience.

I had never been ‘comfortable’ with the idea of putting my money where it could only be managed using an app although I suspect that was mainly to do with my age! However, 3 or 4 years ago, I decided to dip my toe with ATOM as the rate they were offering was good enough to overcome my prejudices.
My experience since then reflects that of r00lish & Ace and I have been very satisfied with the way it works particularly in respect of the ease of opening accounts and efficiency of repayment at the end of the term. Currently in the process of opening/funding my fourth account with them.

It can take a very long time to exit investments (months to years), meanwhile you earn no interest. Some of your investments could be loans to the company themselves, which could lock you in for years. You have to turn off these loans yourself. Once you get out of the investments, it can take months for a simple bank transfer in mine and others experience. There is little to no customer support for lenders. There is no phone number and emails go ignored. I managed to exit completely well over a year ago so some of this may be outdated.Regrettably, it's not. I finally got repaid my last loan in April, without interest, after an 18 month wait. Still have the account but not keen to test if it's still difficult to get invested (my other main issue with the platform) Pretty much the same experience for me. One difference is that I then e-mailed them stating that I wished to close my account. Suffice to say that I got no reply and the account is still active.

I'm pleased to report that this morning I have received all of my remaining funds from FO. Same for me. Whilst it was a small amount (under £30) it was the the final trickle from a withdrawal request that was made over a year ago!

I understand anyone who wants to get a flu jab this winter.
I am entitled to a free one (pre-existing condition, not age related) but was unable to get one at my doctors as all their slots and vaccine comittment had run out within a few hours of them sending a booking link out.
I tried to get an appointment at two major pharmacy chains, but again they have run out (free or paid is immaterial). I have not received any alert that they are 'back in stock'. Thankfully, my surgery has now made more appointments available (presumably with newly secured vaccine) and mine is now scheduled.
bernythedolt have you contacted your GP surgery to ensure you are on a priority list for new appointments ?
You lot reminded me to check with my GP surgery whom I haven't contacted since well before lock-down. They are doing a 'walk-in' service in a tent in their car park available for anyone over 50 or with pre-existing conditions etc, Saturday mornings only. I'm hoping it won't be raining this Saturday. My daughter’s employer pays for all employees to have a flu jab and, so far, she has had two pre-arranged appointments cancelled because the pharmacies did not have any supplies. I registered to receive a jab at my local pharmacy about a month ago and, although I am over 50, I am very happy to pay. I checked again today and found that they had, so far, been issued with limited stocks that had run out some days ago and were still waiting to hear when they can expect new deliveries. Anecdotally this appears to be the case throughout the local area. Before travelling (and even if you have an appointment) it may be prudent to check direct with your surgery that they do have stocks on the day.

2 x £25. Now had a £50,000 holding in the draw for 3 months and currently showing an annualised return of c1.2%. Very happy with that bearing in mind that the capital is completely ‘safe’.

Interesting(?)report on my Covid Testing research via the Office ofNational Stats(some of you may remember my earlier post) I've been kicking my heels waiting for my first visit and the chance to earn £450, A tetchy 12 year old phoned to apologise .A computer fault had to be rectified so they were phoning everyone personally to stand by and wait. Sh+t in Sh+t out. Happy to update that my first 5 visits were completed smoothly (last one 14th September and all vouchers received). Interesting that they’re excuse was “a computer fault”. In the light of the reported issues with testing capacity, I can’t help wondering if this has also affected the rate at which they can take on new volunteers.

Anybody else here been invited to take part in the Covid Survey? I did, this day receive a big pkt from HMG inviting the household to register. Each of us will be paid £450 in vouchers if we stick with it. 220.000 households are invited (Imagine how much this will cost?) A caseworker will visit (fully togged up in PC) and we will swab ourselves. One follow up a week for n number of months. (They wont come in .It happens on the doorstep,go figure). I'll keep you posted......Imagine a household of 10x £450? www.ons.gov.uk/surveys/informationforhouseholdsandindividuals/householdandindividualsurveys/covid19infectionsurveycisI formally signed up about a month ago after having got through very quickly on the contact number. The initial visit took about 30 mins and I have since had the first two follow up visits/tests. These each took about 5mins. I had to take the swabs myself and was slightly surprised at how little guidance was given other than to swab my throat before my nose. Fortunately I had previously had a test administered at one of the testing centres so was broadly aware of the procedure. I have not been advised of any results although they are supposed to be sent to my GP practice. I have not had any contact from the GP and so assume that the results are negative(!) although I could phone to ask if I wanted to. So far the ‘vouchers’ have been sent about 2 weeks after the visits; an online link to a site where the process of choosing/obtaining the vouchers is straightforward and with a fairly good range of retailers to choose from.

I don't know, but they have had repayment amounting to 5% of the book on 26th June. 100% seem optimistic in the general scene of platforms in wind down so it's interesting to see that has the majority result - should one be reassured by that? I suspect that many of the ‘100%’ votes were, like mine, because the investment was solely in an ISA that has now been fully repaid. If I had still been investing in a ‘standard’ account then my vote would almost certainly have been different.
