Yes, Adblock plus. I wnder why I saw som little adverts at the bottom of the forum home page for a few days then they stopped. Donottrackme says it is blocking 5 trackers (just gone down to 4) from this page.

Good plan, but unfortunately not - the adverts are how ProBoards pay for hosting / supporting all these free boards. Oh dear! Is there no way to edit the templates to remove these and replace with something else that would generate more than $8 per 50k page views?

I am in Spain for the winter and disabled AdblockPlus to see what happened. There was an awful bouncing add from some dodgy looking Spanish site offering me a free ipad if I clicked on a link.

I had the idea, somehow, that this the board was paid for up to five years hence, by the very first Administrator alas not elljay am I wrong? PS One silly/strange thing I've noticed is that the count of people viewing a thread is overestimated. If I look at a thread noting the number of views before I look and then compare it with after I've looked often the increase in number is 2 and once it was 4, but about half the time it's 1. I checked looking at few early and obscure threads on back pages that no one looks at. Am I dreaming this or are the Mod team so on the ball that you can see me looking at post and you're already there checking I stick to the forum rules? PS Just checking again and I think it might be related to how many pages you look at in the thread.

Andrew Holgate made reference to having set up and paid for the board (I think it *was* for 5 years) in the Assetz Lender Day video. Is that what you're thinking of? If so, is it the domain (p2pindependentforum.com) that is paid up for 5 years, which is separate from the pro-board BBS function that is hosting the actual forum (not paid for) ?

andrewholgate has paid Proboards to enable the custom domain name for the forum till November 2023 and the DNS for five years.

I know I'm thinking about 4.5 yrs away (so there's no hurry) but how are we going to fund the DNS in the future and what is it likely to cost?

It's roughly £10 a year so not a huge amount. Maybe one or more of the P2x sites would feel generous and chip in. But like you say 4.5 years away yet.

If only there was a way that 1,000 people could chip in just a penny each ... we could call it "crowd funding" or something. Just a crazy idea, it'd probably never happen

Just a thought - 50,000 page views should generate more than $8 in advertising revenue which would more than cover the costs mentioned, so could we chose our adverts with Google AdSense or another scheme? Good plan, but unfortunately not - the adverts are how ProBoards pay for hosting / supporting all these free boards. I've just found this forum from reading between the lines on the new "official" one. Far more information and life here. I also adminster a ProBoards forum and we make a small profit - about a tenner - utilising AdFree and Google AdSense on around 50,000 member page views a month - the over 100,000 page views by various spiders and bots (which artificially increase the viewing figures) still "see" the ads and don't come off your monthly allowance if set correctly in the Admin CP.

Just checked and we had 360k page views last month. I guess we could use the cash towards the domain name when it comes up for renewal. Didn't realise there was a way of using AdSense. Will send you a PM baz657...

Chrome has just flashed up a warning about (I think) www.add100.com. (I backed out to quickly to note details.) I can't be sure that it came from the P2P Independent Forum tab, but that was the one I was looking at the time, but the other ad-serving tabs were Yahoo Finance and Amazon UK.

I don't normally run adblockers on ad-supported forums like here, but the last few days, Chrome (on Win7) keeps hanging after being on the forum for a few minutes.
Reload doesn't fix it, I need to copy'n'paste from the address bar to a freshly opened tab to get it going again.
Installing adblock seems to have fixed it, but it isn't fair to leave that running on a useful ad-supported forum like this.
Has something nasty got into the stream from the webserver?

Same here -- have had to enable AdBlock on the forum to avoid very frequent hangs. Shame, as going to Next Page in a thread no longer automatically takes me to the top.
