You should buy the subscription and sell ads yourself, this way you can choose which ads you show and charge a much higher CPM.

Hi All;
Recently the forum has become almost unusable by me. My netbook's resources are virtually overwhelmed in terms of memory and processor, and I have to keep shutting down I.Explorer to clear these and prevent it hanging - not quite sure when it started, but particularly noticed when the scrolling "Abundance" ads appeared.
Clicked "Remove ads from Forum", but realised that was global, so not appropriate or viable as an individual.
Any suggestions gratefully received - will I have to resort to an adblocker, which I'd rather not do for reasons mentioned by others previously? (and would it work?) TIA - Steve

Yes Adblockers do work, and yes Proboards can only provide free forums by selling ads. Proboards cannot prevent the use of Adblockers - just post a slightly terse message inviting you to reconsider. I guess if it affects their bottom line sufficiently they will have to reconsider their business model, but until then many of us will take the logical step that renders the forum usable.

The ads have suddenly found a way past my adblock. Suddenly Clarks Outlet are swamping (exaggeration!) the page with shoes. (I was on their site yesterday). I haven't changed any settings. Anyone else?

Perhaps Adblock sold them a GOoJF card? I use ublock origin and it's still clean here (apart from the 'please turn off your ad blocker' bleating).

And this post from ribs shows how to get rid of the 'please turn off your ad blocker' bleating too. It works so smoothly now that I had forgotten about the problem.

And this post from ribs shows how to get rid of the 'please turn off your ad blocker' bleating too. It works so smoothly now that I had forgotten about the problem. Just to clarify, my custom rules do indeed remove the added nags that ProBoards felt were necessary. However, it doesn't block the adverts themselves, this is still the job of the adblocking rules themselves. oldgrumpy if you are still having issues, let me know and I'll try to help you out. As a start I'd suggest removing whatever adblocker you have currently installed and installing uBlock Origin (careful, there are copycats, get that exactly plugin), as, in my humble opinion, it's one of the best out there. Once that's up and running and you have no more adverts you can use my rules to block the other nags from ProBoard. The forum is so much nicer with the borderline malware removed from your browsing experience.

"Can we talk?" has morphed into a full page blockage! I'll sort that later.

The only issue I have had with ublock is that my partner finds it blocks some of the sample audio clips on the audible site (obviously they are delivered by a mechanism that looks advert-ish) however there is a one click option to turn it off by site, or for particular pages. Mystically some clips work OK, some come out as silence .. no obvious rhyme or reason. So if you do see misbehaviour, turn off ublock as first step to debugging.
