Hi all, as you can see our ad free period with ProBoards has now ended.
It's early days but we're looking at around 150,000 page views for our first month.
ProBoards offers two options to remove the ads:
* A flat USD8.00 per 50,000 page views - these 50,000 batches can be applied as and when needed.
* A monthly ongoing discounted calendar month subscription. 150,000 page views per month will currently be satisfied by USD16.50 (but ads will reappear if the limit is exceeded in a given month unless a costly "overdraft" is enabled).
You can only vote once, but you can change your vote whilst the poll remains open.
We'll do our best to answer questions on this thread as they arise.
Thanks, The Mod Team

I'm cool with ads. If it's possible for the forum to actually make money from ads, I'd be cool with that too.

Was it just the few I saw below this post earlier today? No problem with those. keep them if it saves money. Incidentally, they have now disappeared. Ha s my Firefox adblock kicked in? I thought that was just for popups.
Edit - oh they've come back now.

I'd also suggest trying to live with them for the time being. If they become too irritating then we can reconsider.

I give up. How do I vote?
I've ticked the box for one of the options, but that doesn't seem to have done anything to record my choice. Is there a 'Vote' button somewhere that I have to click?

Yes that tick is the means of recording your vote. If you untick you should see the total for that row decrease, and then retick it should go backup.

At the moment the ads seem fairly unobtrusive so happy to keep them. If they ever start to have sound time to reconsider.

I guess the reaction was so quick that I didn't notice it.

Hi all, thanks for voting. Looks like the consensus is to leave things as they are. Have now closed the poll.

Just a thought - 50,000 page views should generate more than $8 in advertising revenue which would more than cover the costs mentioned, so could we chose our adverts with Google AdSense or another scheme?

Good plan, but unfortunately not - the adverts are how ProBoards pay for hosting / supporting all these free boards.

I'm not seeing the adverts any more. Is my adblocker blocking them? I saw them a couple of weeks ago when we were informed that the adfree period had expired.

If you have AdblockPlus as an addon it will be blocking the adds, I also have PrivDog but it doesn't need to block the ads so Adblock gets in first. Privdog is blocking 2 trackers on this site, however the usual Facebook is not here I am pleased to see.
