Was interested in making a small deposit as from next month I will be drawing a pension rather than living off my savings. Is there a UK site? If not, just wondering how you actually deposit USD? I just have a basic bank GBP current account and a "Creation" conversion fee free credit card for spending abroad. Had a quick look at the website - wondered if the easiest way is to buy myself a "Kiva card". pom @bobo can you advise please? Thanks. |

I use my revolut card, can pay in US$ and it exchanges the payment at a decent rate.

Thanks for your replies - just made a small start via Paypal. Landline rang 2 mins later with what I assumed was a scam ("fraud team", press 1 for more info) - my automatic response to put the phone down kicked in but on reflection wonder if using my debit card via Paypal for a $ transaction triggered something.
I have the warm glow of making a donation - if I get part of it back some time I will enjoy relending. Such a wonderful contrast to losing dosh to the likes of the laird (AC 227).
Many thanks to those who mentioned Kiva.

Oh dear tried to fund some more loans but Paypal can't complete, tells me to check the debit card. Guess not all automated calls are scams  Guess a trip into town to the bank is on the agenda for tomorrow - at least we do still actually have a real live branch. |

A few days after making my initial deposit via Paypal I got an e-mail offering me a "free" $25 to invest from them if I transferred a further amount of at least $25 (which I did). Something to look out for, if anyone else does decide to sign up - it was marked as "today only".

As it is a charity there are no sign up bonuses or cash back offers as you would expect, occassionally you get these offers to match your investment or have choose where to invest other people money.

Either way, a family in the Philippines will soon have some fatter pigs

Basically they have some big investors who don't want to choose where to invest their money, they let you do it for them. The $25 you lent out will be repaid to you when they are made, the second $25 invested that you was given free the repayments go back to the large investor as it was always their money.

Getting near to $40k.
I have been lending with Kiva for nearly 4 years, only 1.6% of loans have ended in default, and funds have been repaid and lent out again nearly 4 times.
