And FWIW my view is that it's utterly risible that only now is the government/PM trying to reach out to get consensus after 2.5 wasted years, when it was obvious to anyone with any modicum of common sense that MPs and the population are divided on this issue and there was no mandate for the hard Brexit the government tried every trick in the book to steamroller though Parliament. The UK is the laughing stock of the world right now, and I am ashamed to be part of it.

I refer to my earlier post: "two-nil, and you f***ed it up" Yeah Remain really did f*** it up - from the unassailable position of there not even being a match Long game

The government has negotiated the withdrawal agreement with the EU and what I'm hearing is that this is a good deal for Britain

I keep hearing a Steve Baker (?) from the ERG pop up saying "we should do the deal that Tusk offered us in 2016, and that gave us everything we wanted" (or words to that effect). Does anybody know what that's about? Best guess: Tusk's pre-ref draft deal from early 2016. Bullet points (courtesy of DT here) And if you really, REALLY want the ins and outs (pun intended) of that 'offer', the parliamentary briefing paper on it can be found here.

Yesterday I found myself talking to someone who seemed normal on the outside, and he told me that we had to leave the EU immediately with a hard Brexit, regardless of the economic cost. Why? Because he had researched it, and the EU was run by the Nazis. After WW2 the Nazis had gone into hiding, but in the background they had made it their mission to take over the EU. And their aim? Revenge against Britain for winning the war. This was not a joke and he was quite earnest and serious.
I just thought everyone on the forum should be warned.

Thanks for that, I've just read most of it and skimmed some of it. It does seem to be better than the "May deal", however a) I don't think it was ever agreed (probably because somebody thought we could get a better deal?) and b) I doubt very much that it is still on the table. Though I guess the ERG position might be "either that or a no deal Brexit".... whether the EU would play ball is open to question.

Good news is that also in the House of Commons, there seems to be open discussion of the type of Brexit we should have. Once decided, this should be the point that we trigger Article 50 and present it to the EU as our negotiating position. It should never be forgotten who triggered Article 50 without any plan, and then sent David Davis who took with him just a pencil and a scrap of paper to note down the EU's plans and timelines.

I read that article earlier today. Finkelstein seems to put the blame only on Tory Brexiteers, conveniently skipping over the fact there were enough non-Tory votes to have passed May's deal if it had been any good. Problem is, it wasn't.
Wrt reaching out to others, I saw Anna Soubry MP interviewed on one of the lunchtime news programmes. She was saying how she'd explained to May ages back that there would be no need for an Irish backstop if we stayed in the customs union and single market. Duh, then we wouldn't have left!.
Also saw Liz Kendall MP on BBC2's Politics Live programme saying how a no-deal Brexit would mean there had to be a hard border in NI/Ireland, but couldn't answer Andrew Neil's question "which side would put it up" (presumably because both sides have stated they wouldn't).
Then we wonder why we're getting nowhere.

He's got point you know, apart from the revenge bit . You ought to talk to a few Greeks or Italians too. He probably enjoys reading Commando comics. I've a whole shelf of them.

I have a rather traumatic memory of, well I must have been six or seven, writing a story for my English homework in the style of a Commando comic (one of which I'd recently read). It did not go well for me .

I'll ask about the Commando comics. It's someone I see each week in the choir. Or plucky resistance fighter unit, as I now see it could be through Combat Picture Library eyes.

With the new Chinese rover on the dark side of the moon 🌒 it will soon find evidence of the well reported Nazi/alien bases there. Be afraid very afraid in case they are right. Be even more afraid of them for believing they are right.
