Agree about the Union stuff. Similarly, I think she may lose potential votes by including income/wealth inequality. Clearly there are many people who think inequality should be worked on, but I don't see inequality as necessarily linked to environmental/climate issues (if we had no climate change problems inequality would still be there to be addressed).

Labour for a Green New Deal has the same characteristics: "We can democratise industry and social infrastructure through powerful unions, democratic control and expanded public ownership. We can take the economy out of the control of the super rich, and put it in the hands of ordinary people. We can address the economic and ecological consequences of climate breakdown and global inequality by building solidarity across borders."
"An unequal and oppressive economic system has destabilised our climate.."

just been round the brother in laws and we were talking to his teenage son about today's events etc.He mentioned how pleased he was that his family was trying harder to use less plastic but hopes more could be done and started talking about dental floss and other things round the house he felt was being missed. His father said fine but in a show of solidarity suggested he makes more effort himself and gets rid of his plastic such as phone and all the stuff in his bedroom tablet, laptop, games console & tv plus his funky plastic furniture and half dozen poly football team shirts and buys no more - he cleared the stairs to his room in a time that would qualify for the next Olympics!

Trevor Phillips, on BBC's Politics Live, said something to the effect that he'd take the protestors more seriously if they'd promise not to visit the most frequently visited foreign locations, each typically reached by air, e.g. Majorca, Malta..
I doubt they'll be agreeing to that.

Probably worth reading the BBC'S pdf link I put up to get an overview of options. Life will change but just poopooing youngsters calling for focus and attention is hardly grown up of Phillips. If the science is clear, which it is, let's get on with it.

If the science is clear, which it is, let's get on with it. would disagree slightly with the idea of challenging youngsters as to the practicalities of the movement and how life will change,as in someways it gets them to think outside the slogans.I only caught the last 20 seconds or so of an interview with a teenage girl in the studio on BBC London news and she made the point that she felt she could do more and mentioned less car journeys and that while she did not eat meat she needs to make the next step to vegan.I can quite admire that stance & for her honest views but not sure how many protesting are thinking that far ahead. Yes the science is telling us many things and many clever people are trying to educate us but getting young children of 7 or eight to wave socialist worker banners with slogans or teens telling us we need to do this or that without them realising what is required to be given up in the form of comfort/services and goods is also poor education of a sort (and yes i know that does not mean we should not try) At the end of the day i think the average protester today has good intentions and should be applauded but most also have no idea of some of the more extreme views of the eco movement or the animal rights and social change movements that they are working with and the kinda lifestyle they could end up living

BBC reports "The Committee on Climate Change says a “frequent flyer levy” would help curb the growing demand for air travel."
I want to know what they mean by 'frequent'. Twice/year? Ten times/year?.... And how big a levy? Doubt it would work, as people could take the Eurostar to Europe and fly from there.

No surprise to see in the above stats that the busiest pair is the UK/Spain one at 9.6% of intra-EU flights.
From the Guardian today "Just 1% of English residents are responsible for nearly a fifth of all flights abroad, according to previously unpublished statistics. The figures, published in a Department for Transport survey, also reveal that the 10% most frequent flyers in England took more than half of all international flights in 2018. However, 48% of the population did not take a single flight abroad in the last year."
