I've yet to experience a metered hookup, so that is reassuring. Wondering how many of our favourite sites with EH have now installed meters. Do you have warm air heating - if so in this weather I'd have thought you'd also have been running hot air fan for some time (plus water pump). Yes the heating is diesel powered and hot air is blown into the van. This runs on 12v leisure batteries charged by mains HU. Water pump is probably next power hungry item, not on for long so consumption is low. Must add, the site charged cost price with business rate subsidy at 24p/ kWh. Seems a fairer way to pay as you go rather than Increase the pitch fee.

Exactly. Council worker with smoke volume detector? I for one wont be worrying. Every way we turn to try an alternative way to stay warm/save money, the authorities intervene. So far smoke alarms , log burner monitors and now I cant use my car in cities without being fined!!

Are they going to hand out some gadget so that you can measure the emissions, is there one available to buy? Or do you just wait for the knock on the door and the fine? I assume you might be able to measure something in the room, but how do you measure what went up the chimney?

yes there are gadgets to measure particle size and you can assemble them yourselves for about £50 or buy for more from Amazon etc. Very much core citizen science tools.

It is an interesting argument, choose the anarchist?
1) The Union that stops working in reasonable dispute about pay or conditions and so forces others to reorganise their day 2) The company that raises its prices so that others have to reorganise their day
3) The Just stop oil crowd who organise a demonstration in order to protect their lives of their children so that others have to reorganise their day
I'm sure our prejudice will force us to one side of the argument or the other but why do we see these views so clearly?

I work in the waste industry and recently went on a course. The lecturer explained he had worked in china for 10 years and how they addressed pollution ( yes I was surprised)quickly and how the youth if the world need to take things forward.
Unfortunately I witness a complete lack of recycling or reuse mainly from young folk.
I have relatives staying just now, the waste all goes into landfill bin leaving me to extract plastic bottles
etc.
Dissapounting not all are Gretas.

I'd use a mixture of carrot (small grant) and stick (make it illegal to sell or rent a property without a certificate of compliance, which could be included with the EPC).

my bold. What you on about? banned? cigarettes? illegal? .... if you haven't noticed there have been a wide ranging change in legislation and law with regards to log burners over recent years brought in by defra, hetas and ecodesign 2022.. i like burning wood. I assume you don't drive a range rover? .... just saying.

Shouldn't there be a ban on excessive breathing? Respiration produces huge amounts of CO2. Vigorous exercise which is clearly a selfish activity is the root cause.
