If you look at the worldometers link you posted earlier you can see that: - in total terms, 3 of the top 4 poluters are third world countries
- on a per capita basis 9 of the top ten poluters are third world, with 5 of the top ten being gulf states.
<scratches head> The last GHG data link posted in this thread was... p2pindependentforum.com/post/468601data.worldbank.org/indicator/EN.ATM.CO2E.PC?most_recent_value_desc=true1 - Qatar - 32.8t 2 - Bahrain - 22.3t 3 - Kuwait - 20.9t 4 - UAE - 20.5t 5 - Oman - 16.5t 6 - Brunei - 16.0t 7 - Canada - 15.4t 8 - Luxembourg - 15.3t 9 - Australia - 15.3t 10 - US - 14.7t Which nine of those are "third world", iyho? Presumably, the US is the one that isn't? The top six are Gulf, true. Remind me of the basis for their economies? Going further back, to the older figures you refer to directly... p2pindependentforum.com/post/468574www.worldometers.info/co2-emissions/co2-emissions-per-capita/Absolute numbers: 1 - China - 10.4bn tons = 7.38/pc 2 - US - 5bn = 15.5/pc 3 - India - 2.5bn = 1.9/pc 4 - Russia - 1.6bn = 11.44/pc 5 - Japan - 1.24bn = 9.7/pc 6 - Germany - 775m = 9.4/pc 7 - Canada - 676m = 18.6/pc 8 - Iran - 642m = 8.08/pc 9 - South Korea = 604m = 11.85/pc 10 - Indonesia = 530m = 2.03/pc Three of the top four are "third world"? Per capita: 1 - Qatar = 37.29t/pc 2 - Montenegro = 25.9t 3 - Kuwait = 25.65 4 - Trinidad & Tobago = 25.39 5 - UAE - 23.37 6 - Oman - 19.61 7 - Canada - 18.58 8 - Brunei - 18.28 9 - Luxembourg - 17.51 10 - Bahrain - 17.15 Which of those is not "third world"? Let's look at the two new entries in that last list - Montenegro and Trinidad/Tobago. Worldbank gives 4.2t for Montenegro and 11.3t for T&T. What could account for the difference? Could it be that both are small-population countries with fairly large amounts of tourism? In MNE's case, they almost all arrive by cruise ship (ever been to Kotor?). Should those emissions be counted for the destination, or for the tourists' home? Your avatar has a fine head of hair, but I wonder in reality if you are going a bit thin on top with all the <scratches head> that you do. My comments were in relation to Worldometers data and I don't know why you think it appropriate to compare those comments with data from other sources. I accept that people may have different interpretations on what constitutes third world, but based on the Worldometers figures:
- absolute numbers - if China, India and Russia aren't third world then I don't know who is,
- per capita - I originally only had Canada as a first world country, which I accept was unfair to Luxenbourg. I revise my estimate from 9 out of 10 to 8 out of 10.
Regarding the 'top six are Gulf, true. Remind me of the basis for their economies', I worked in the gulf for several years and know what an odious bunch this lot are. They are a classic example of the vested interestd that I referred to in an earlier post, and they definately all go in the third world pot.

OK, I think we clearly have very different ideas of what constitutes "third world"...
Qatar's GDP per capita is nearly 50% higher than the UK's, btw.

You might need to redefine your definitions ... Third World is a technically a political term for countries not allied with the First World (US & Nato), or Second World (USSR, China etc) so you can knock out several of the top countries. On the more modern usage of economic basis then alot of those are not Third World

On the more modern usage of economic basis then alot of those are not Third World The technical defenition you are using is about 70 years old, and many will have moved on from there. I suspect that if you asked the average man in the street what constituted third world, few would mention political allegiances. Far more likely to be things like democracy, law and order, equality for all (regardless of colour, religion or sexual orientation), access to toilets / food / drinking water, and a roof over your head. Base on this I think I'll keep my list as it is.
Where would you place India? They have a space program, but 20% of the population have to p*ss in a ditch because they don't have toilets in their house.

"Look all I wanted to do was add up numbers, I didn't want to take responsability for my actions!" (my words)
Twitter has a nice video of BP's economist not explaining why they are walking away (again) from their climate change targets. What a shitty company that is

Given the Police's actions against Just Stop Oil
will they be seeking to find out what other crimes and irritations this closing of the M5 has brought about

no, it was incompetence, which is a management decision to not institute correct procedures, so someone is guilty. So let's ask if anyone else has been incovenienced so they can raise the charges on the idiots
Or more likely the Police don't care and Home Secretary has something else to do

On what grounds can you claim incompetence at this stage? Even if proven that still puts it a world away from a wilful act of disruption which is what JSO did. I share your desire to move to renewables but don't view this group as a positive move in getting there, if anything they're pushing opinion in the wrong direction.

I'm far more concerned by the new actions of our police. Who, having arrested a person of one crime try to find out what else they have done by advertising their arrest (not guilt) on social media asking for more people to complain.
This behaviour is possibly sensible but imagine if it starts happening on all crimes.
James gets pulled over for speeding Police ask for people who were inconvenienced by this speeding (note he is not yet guilty, merely arrested) etc etc
It adds a whole new idea of what we have the police for and I don't think it has been fully understood yet

I'm pretty sure asking for further witnesses or making appeals for other potential victims has been a staple of Police behaviour for quite some time (even on social media). Whether they're arrested or not just determines whether they can be detained, if you've been caught doing something wrong there's nothing stopping them gathering further evidence - nor should there be.
