Don't like the message, so whinge about the messenger? I took michaelc 's post to be funny, whether intended or not. Oh, absolutely - I had a good chuckle at it, too...

"per capita"And, yes, the UK does OK on that - could try harder, Sweden's a quarter lower. But, yes, China should be doing better. So should we. So should the US. So should *everybody*. Part of the problem is that we've outsourced all our manufacturing emissions to China. Look at Australia if you want a real villain there... That's what protecting a domestic coal industry does for you. Three times the CO2 emissions of the UK. 47% coal electricity generation, vs the UK's 1%.

That super long graphic starts around 22,000 years ago. Another estimate by the world's scientists is that five major ice ages have taken place on earth with the first around a couple of billion years ago. So that graphic should be 90,000 times longer (assuming that wouldn't break any spam rules).

though surely the main point is to illustrate a) the very rapid change that is happening and b) its coincidence with human FF activity.

Britain has used very little fossil for electricity generation this week. gridwatch.co.uk/30% isnt little. And the issue isn't when the wind is blowing/sun shining ... base load, inertia, grid balancing ... the technical bit that makes it expensive

Remember, 69% renewable doesn't mean 31% fossil... Nuclear is not renewable. Likewise, biomass is not carbon neutral.

This week ... 20, 40, 20, rest imported, so it's 25% of UK generation, so yeah slight misreading ... but point remains ... renewable doesn't address it or isn't the solution currently or in the near future
