Thinking of buying a automatic luxury watch for men.Not sure which brand or where to buy it from.Rado seems to have reasonable prices. Don't really want to spend more than 3k.

I’m more of £10 watch person heh Watches can be a investment as well. Some old Rolex have more than tripled in value. I also want something nice on my wrist. Spending silly money on a mobile phone just doesn't do it for me anymore.

If you know what you’re doing and can buy something that will triple in value then go for it. I didn’t realise second hand rollexes increased in value

I can confirm some luxury watches do rise in value. I bought a special edition Rolex Daytona in 1998 with my first ever bonus. It cost the equivalent of around £3k (I bought it in the US). I was young, single, foolish, and thought these things mattered. It was a very nice watch but a particular PITA with it's mechanism. It cost a fortune to mend and they took ages to fix it. I don't wear it anymore. Oddly though this unreliable Rolex has rocketed in value. The last time I took it in to be valued (a few years ago), they offered me £18k for it because it's a rare edition.
To be honest, the best watch I ever had was a fairly heavy duty quartz Seiko. I think it cost £99 sometime in the early 90s. I gave it to my Dad when I bought the Rolex. He won't give it back!

Wow. 3k for a rolex was a bargain! I wish I had a time machine. I will keep my eye out for any special edition watches. Maybe not a rolex but another swiss brand.

Who uses watches in 2019. Is your phone broken? Watches are now a niche market. I have a working phone and to be honest don't really even need a watch. But I want at least one luxury watch.

Besides you spend around 1k for a phone these days and a year later it's worth £100. A decent luxury watch will maintain its value. As long as you look after it and keep its box etc. Check out some patek Philippe watches on google. They look stunning.

I thought everyone knew that many Rolexes in particular can, and do, appreciate in value. Just goes to show that none of us know it all!

So do you just buy a rollex, hold on to it then sell it again for a profit? Why would anybody want to pay more for a second hand one than a brand new one? I did read an article about somebody that inherited a Philip patek watch and sent it to the company for repairs and was quoted tens of thousands, so I was partially aware of the investment potential.

Its probably better to buy these prior to brexit as the further the pound drops the more expensive they will become.
