What do you recommend for around 3k ? The Rado you chose is actually to my taste, a subtle design and a good size as said. I don't like overly busy dials with a plethora of pointless functions. Has anything else caught your eye? Perhaps worth having a skim through sites like ablogtowatch.com or wornandwound.com for inspiration. Obviously you should buy what you like the look of, and if certain Swiss brands have cachet that's fair enough. Have a look to see what's possible second hand for Rolex - www.watchfinder.co.uk/Rolex/watchesPersonally, I like Grand Seiko (probably second hand for that budget) or an example just within - watchesofmayfair.com/brand/grand-seiko/all-grand-seiko-watches/grand-seiko-sbga285-spring-drive, and Nomos - nomos-glashuette.com/en . Much better value than you'd get for the same money from a Swiss brand, particularly to get an in house movement. Watch does look nice but not really heard much of grand seiko. Need to do more research.

I bought an extremely expensive watch, back in 2000. It has not held its value, and it's cost me circa £1500 a year to insure. All in, as of now, I'm probably down £20k.
But that's not why I bought it.

Ok, now we're talking. Two hundred years from now? Probably in a museum, behind glass, or in a trench, around the wrist of somebody who loved it. My one piece of advice re watches, whether you drop £100 or £100,000, is don't buy bling.

martin44 leave aside the obvious for a moment (ie that none of us give investment advice etc) and it's a little like talking to your friend / brother / uncle / niece / sister / whatever. If they'd found a flat / business / house / island that they loved, and that they wanted to live in, and grow in, then what price the property market? I found a watch I wanted to wear. I knew it was daft. I also knew few would recognise it as such. But I love it for what it was, and what it is, and, with a bit of luck, what it will be. I kind of also love it for what I hoped it might mean for me, when I bought it. Life didn't turn out that way, but I love it still . I don't have children, but I do have two "god-children". I adore them, love them to bits, but haven't yet figured out how to explain to the elder (female) that the watch has to go to the younger (male). I'll balance things up obviously but... these things are inherently very.. personal, and very.... difficult. The good news is she will probably be Prime Minister one day. And her brother will probably be in charge of the SAS. Or dead, in training . Wish their parents, and me, luck .

I found a watch I like Rolex gmt and Daytona. (I keep changing my mind after doing some research). The hard part is justifying the expenditure and I did not even think about the insurance! Trolling the internet and reading reviews on YouTube allow me to gather information before making a purchase. I am wondering if it would be cheaper to buy when I next travel via Heathrow duty free which is in November. My home insurance is due for renewal in December so I could add the watch to it ?

Would Dubai duty free be cheaper than Heathrow duty free. Prob not considering the pound is in free fall especially so close after brexit.

My SAYE should mature after 3 years in November and depending on my company's share price the profit should cover the cost of a GMT but not a Daytona!
