Just thought i'd have a look at Zopa's blog today and was wondering if this board should now be called "FeelGood" rather than Zopa. I don't get why Zopa has decided it's having a FeelGood effect on anyone but it definitely seems that the blog has taken a turn for the worse - mind you it has been going down hill for over a year now so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised!
I wonder how many people will actually be feeling that good anyway what with the Brexit debacle dragging on and on. Ok I know cricket has had a good weekend but I just wonder how many people are going to feel pain rather than relief over the coming weeks, what with BA strikes messing up peoples hard earned holidays and the Boris cavorting around the EU being kidded along by all those smug EU politicos!.
Anyway perhaps it's time for a name change on this board as well, what do you think.

I wonder what the traffic is like today my experience of bank holidays when I have not been mindful of the calendar had not been a great one but i take your point. Mind you I'm saving up me pennies for later in september when we are having a few days in another country. Edit?: spotted second link - noticed they just stepped out of from door and onto the beach (well almost I guess) so no travelling required!. Perhaps I'll dig the garden up and create my own beach ... now there's a thought.

Sounds like an index of cheap fun for the kids without taking account of the hard work for the parent involved!
Conveniently ignores the multiple "Nos" that are required to maintain low spending when with kids in areas where loads of people are trying to entice the kids to spend your money! My experience is that packed sandwiches have a low appeal when sitting downwind of fast food as an example!

I had a wonderful "feel good" return from Zopa in 2019. There were 2 nice debt sales in last summer, full year return is 0.25% of all time investment value after exiting the Zopa plus in 2018, which I say it's not too bad for 0 active loan account.

It's definitely FeelGood during this time of uncertainty. No delay in recovery payment. Every little helps.

Reuters ticker today: Britain's oldest peer-to-peer lending platform Zopa has received a full banking licence from regulators.

That 2 year option looks the sweet spot, certainly better than available elsewhere. Unfortunately despite having an active account. I get: "We're not quite ready for you..." when applying. Still, I had 28p in my holding account to withdraw, so everybody wins.

We're supposed to be excited by a fixed 1.6% for 5 years? So depressing.

If Zopa do start with these rates they will attract a lot of money. I would suspect they will be lowered within a few weeks.

If Zopa do start with these rates they will attract a lot of money. I would suspect they will be lowered within a few weeks. Or days. 1.4% is substantially higher than the next best 2-year fix (PCF bank 1.16%) I'm not sure why they're simultaneously clearly after a slow rollout whilst advertising exceptional rates. If they just offered, say, 1.1% for 2 year fix and open to all, they'd probably see the moderate demand they're after without needing to stem the tide artificially. Not seen anyone say yet that they've successfully applied btw, anyone actually managed to open one?

Looking at Moneyfacts, the best 1, 2 and 3 year rates currently are 1.05% (Cynergy Bank), 1.30% (Allied Irish Bank) and 1.30% (UBL UK) respectively.
So clearly Zopa Bank intends to top the 'best buy' tables when it launches - a very sensible strategy that should be more effective than any marketing campaign.
If Zopa wanted to be really innovative, then it could offer to switch customers' existing P2P holdings into a Zopa Bank fixed-rate product without charging the 1% sale fee. There are doubtless many reasons why that can't / won't happen, but exiting Zopa P2P in such a way would probably make many investors 'FeelGood'.
