Doesnt seem to have been mentioned here FDA approved emergency use of Pfizer vaccine over the weekend and US vaccination program reportedly starting tomorrow.More worryingly London and bits of Home Counties (Essex/Herts) into tier 3 Wed - partially due to a new fast spreading variant that has been identified in the South East. its already started hasn't it ?

It is now two and a half hours since I received the first Pfizer vaccine injection at a local surgery and so far no effects noticed.

A friend of ours (mid-80s, poor health, very frail) is being vaccinated tomorrow. Her husband (similar age, more robust, her full-time carer) is driving her to the appointment... but has been told he can't get it done himself yet.

Long queues of people in a street 800 yards from me today, waiting for their jab. I did wonder about the social distancing. Wet weather forecast for Wednesday and Friday - won't be much fun for such elderly people.

Some academic gossip here: www.sciencemediacentre.org/expert-reaction-to-the-new-variant-of-sars-cov-2/I haven't read all of it. e.g. (My highlight) Dr Zania Stamataki, Viral Immunologist, University of Birmingham, said: “The emergence of different coronavirus strains a year after SARS-CoV-2 first jumped to humans is neither cause for panic nor unexpected. Mutations will accumulate and lead to new virus variants, pushed by our own immune system to change or perish. “This virus doesn’t mutate as fast as influenza and, although we need to keep it under surveillance, it will not be a major undertaking to update the new vaccines when necessary in the future. This year has seen significant advances take place, to build the infrastructure for us to keep up with this coronavirus.”

spoke to a work colleague of mine today that has been off for many many months. Just back doing a day or two a week, and had to persuade doctor it was the right thing to do. Was a very very fit individual, and more towards the lower middle aged. What she has been and is still going through is awful, and a re-awakening of the impact this thing can have on some, if one was needed.

And to think she wouldn't have made it to even bottom priority on the list had the vaccine been available before she got it. If I was 6 months older I'd be within band 9 but I don't even make that. Sad news and hope she gets fully better soon.

Hope that JamesFrance continues to keep us updated. I'm interested to corroborate an internet rumour that the vaccine makes you irrestible to the opposite sex.

What I'm not sure about is can people get Covid from people who have been vaccinated, if the vaccinated people have subsequently been in contact with someone else who has Covid, or even directly from people who have been vaccinated because of the vaccine itself. Edit: My family group has extremely high risk, very high risk and high risk individuals, so we are likely to be offered the vaccine in three different cohorts.

My worry is that the vaccine isn't 100%. After the 2nd injection is there an antibody test or do we just go forth with faith and hope we are immune?
As this vaccine doesn't give everyone full immunity will there be up to 10% of the immunised (people whose expectation is that they are immune) be out and about spreading the virus.
Can I say that I have little faith that my GP will contact me for immunisation against C-19. I've been entitled to the flu vaccine for over 15 years because of my age and never once in that time has my GP contacted me to say the 'flu vaccine is available - yet they have all my contact details.
