Just a random thought and I've done no research, anyways.... Thinking about these poor lorry drivers who need to pass a negative test to get over/under The Channel to get home for Christmas. And likewise, other situations in which a negative test is required as a "pass" so to speak. Are they self-swabbing? Because surely the temptation is to "fake it" (I don't know how but swab your sweat or some other liquid) in case you get stuck in Dover (no disrespect to Dover) for a couple of weeks. As we all you know you have to fake so that you make it

Broccoli and cauliflower possibly in short supply? That's going to ruin Christmas.
I normally do my shopping on a Monday, so I wandered down to Tesco mid-morning to see what was going on. Car park was as crowded as a normal Saturday, with about 6 people in a queue at the entrance being checked in. In store everything was civilised, with all the check-outs manned, so no delay at the tills.
I have a click and collect for Wednesday (we still don't go in store), I wonder how much will be substituted or unavailable! And... all was present and correct, including Broccoli.

Not great for those poor drivers. 🤔 So, if they are tested positive? will they get quarantined in a secure facility and who’s going to pay for the cost?

However, this is the UK, so probably what that will actually mean is that they fill in an online form at a gov website undertaking to self isolate and then are free to go do what they want (well apart from go to the pub, restaurant etc as they are all closed).
Pay for it ? Future generations again I guess. It will be but a rounding error on the 'all inclusive' bill for C19
Actually, I heard that the French are going to pay in kind, with some fish. Probably "our" fish of course, but hell.

How about Last Christmas... this year, to save me from tiers, I'll give it to someone special. The ultra sad thing is that this stuff is floating around my head, I haven't even picked it up from social media.

Why are we reliant on charities to feed the drivers? www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-55421924It's great that they've stepped up, but they shouldn't need to / be required to. I guess seeing as our bloody government seems reluctant to feed school children, they figure lorry drivers are old enough to look after themselves .

Good on the drivers for taking matters into their own hands, it's the only way to get anyone to take notice these days. You've got to wonder why the hell there wasn't a plan in place, ready to go, devised back in the early days of the pandemic and adapted to take account of improvements in testing etc. Gives a taste of what we could be in for assuming we don't cave in again to EU demands and choose no deal. Btw anyone see Gibraltar will have free movement in Schengen zone while those arriving from GB will have to go through customs/passport control. Seems like we're giving our territory away in desperation. Rant over

We've been doing a weekly zoom "pub quiz" with friends and friends-of-friends for much of the year. Every week, we do abysmally at the music round. This week...? Xmas-themed. We did depressingly well.

Because this is the rollout of the carefully constructed and long worked on contingency planning for Brexit: they had just overlooked the fact that as well as parking space for 1000's of trucks, there might be a need for food & water.
Didi you notice this bit:
Members of Maidenhead's KhalsaAid travelled 80 miles (130km) to take food to drivers hit by the travel ban between the UK and France. On Tuesday, some of the Sikh charity's LangarAid members travelled almost double the distance, from Coventry, to take water and food.
Small point: Coventry is in Tier 3....Kent is in Tier 4....oh dear

Small point: Coventry is in Tier 3....Kent is in Tier 4....oh dearI’d imagine there are numerous movements across tiers that are for the want of a more general description “work-related”. For example, do you think football team fixtures have been cancelled if they cross different tiers. Obviously not. I thought it was an uplifting piece showing the best traits of humans. bracknellboy good luck reporting them! Maybe give Priti Patel a call. To the first bit: quite. To the second bit: I think you may have rather missed the point of the post. Never mind.
P.S. Your quote about police escort is not particularly relevant as it relates to Gravesend. Difficult to get from Coventry to anywhere in Kent purely along the M20, with or without a police escort.

I guess seeing as our bloody government seems reluctant to feed school children, they figure lorry drivers are old enough to look after themselves . Just read a director of a British company importing stuff from Poland was contacted by a driver's wife to ask if he can get a loaf of bread to the stuck driver. The word "outrage" gets used a lot but that I really am right now. I also wonder about sleep. Ok, the trucks have beds but what about those travelling in vans - where are they going to sleep? And frankly how are "big" bodily needs going to take place? I'm not medic but I imagine these conditions would be very hard to tolerate. Regardless of whether you're a Leaver or Remainer the fault may lie at several doors but one is without doubt the UK government. Its moving into a humanitarian disaster. In the recent past, the government's response has often been to chuck money at the private sector to mop up. Well who is going to mop up here? It requires national leadership and resolution by our emergency and probably armed forces.

I very much doubt the Police weren’t aware of the Coventry tier 3 to Kent tier 3 movement. But if it troubles you enough to post about it as the arbiter of who is and isn’t justified crossing tiers then do give the police a call or failing that Priti Patel. Maybe you’d like to confer with Nicola Sturgeon whose mealy mouthedness about the royals on Tier and Home Nations hopping is on record. www.scotsman.com/health/coronavirus/nicola-sturgeon-says-william-and-kates-trip-scotland-matter-royal-household-3060046You've missed the point, again. Never mind.
Bit of a hint: the observation is not about the "wrongs" of people giving freely of their own time and resources to feed and water people in need, nor indeed travelling x miles across whatever patchwork of counties and tier whatever's to do it.

Does no one think maybe the French are to blame for stranding their nationals and other EU nationals in the UK at Christmas?

Plenty of blame all round, yes. But I expect our government to be able to feed them!
