Checked in at one of the vaccination centre this morning. No queues. All boosted already or there’s no hurry? If the one I vol at is at all representative, then could well be simply people who have booked appointments and then not shown up. Not even cancelling appointments. Apparently this morning there were loads of those. So they opened up to walk-ins and published that out on 'social media' and very quickly got massive Q's. Going back to booked only this afternoon (which is a shame, 'cos I'm going to be there shortly and its always a better experience when its rammed). Additional vaccinators have been brought in over the last few days to give more capacity, so this is pretty awful behaviour. I don't know whether its simply boosters not turning up, or whether it is first jab bookings not turning up (in which case possibility that it is anti-vaxxers making bookings and then doing a no-show).

Interestingly, the queue for swab is longer than than jabs. 😅

Checked in at one of the vaccination centre this morning. No queues. All boosted already or there’s no hurry? They moved our local vax centre to an abondoned supermarket in the middle of town. Normally there are about 15 - 20 people in a queue for roll ups, but yesterday there was a big sign saying no more walk ins available today. I guess a sign of increasing demand via bookings.

Look even before Covid started we knew that nursing homes and hospitals are where people die.
That doesn't mean nursing homes and hospitals kill people.
I still say "mandate vaccination" and stop pussyfooting about.

I'm struggling to understand this Omicrom malarkey.
We are told by the experts that the doubling time is 2 - 3 days, lets say 2.33 days to keep the maths easy (equating to 3 doubling cycles every 7 days). Last Tuesday there were about 60,000 cases, and today it's 90,000.
Accepting that Omicron hasn't completely taken over from Delta, I don't see how the increase in cases can be 50% week on week, when it should be 800%.

I suspect that the objective was to frighten folk in to a de facto lockdown rather than a prediction.
However, let's say that the Delta rate was hovering around 50k and as Whitty said Omicron built on that from say 30 or 40 cases at the beginning of the month doubling every couple of days, there would be a total of about 90k by now.

Agreed. And as I alluded to in a post a page or two back, of the ten (now eleven) people I know who've recently had covid ten (now eleven) had at least been double jabbed. Thankfully nobody was hospitalised, so at least in my tiny sample the effects seem to have been limited by the jabs. This thing is going to go through the population like lightning.

What dangerous thinking. So would you strap people to a gurney and forcibly inject them? Because you’d have to do that in thousands of cases. Logically, why would you then stop there and not ban everything else that we’re told is bad for us, like an outright ban on tobacco, alcohol, sugary drinks, sugar in foodstuffs, sweets/confectionery, ham, bacon and all processed foods, fast-food outlets? Fish & chip shops? Where do you stop? Once that lot is gone, things like starchy foods stand out as bad for us. Do you then ban bread, potatoes, crisps, chips and rice? Cakes and biscuits? Then comes the next fad, like the old “fat is bad” madness. So we’d have to ban red meat, sausages, butter, cheese, milk, chocolate, etc. After that lot’s gone, even chicken and caramelised roasted vegetables start to look bad. By now you’ve built up a whole industry dedicated to banning stuff, so chicken, eggs and roastable veg would have to go. Where would it stop? Fish and salad to eat, every day. Mandating enforced vaccines would mark the start of the salami tactics and it’s probably best not to even start down that path, unless you enjoy North Korea’s way of life. We wouldn’t be overweight, but life would be as miserable as sin. There are very important reasons why we should prefer the libertarian approach of freedom of choice, backed up by good science and education, hopefully leading to a strong voluntary vaccine take-up. Just as we’ve seen in the UK in fact.

Looks like 7 days ago Omicron was about 5% of UK Covid, now about 37% with Delta taking a nose dive, so the maths looks possible as far as I can see. Omicron maybe 3,000 cases a week ago up to 33,000 now with the Delta going in the opposite direction. All very approximate.

Just as we’ve seen in the UK in fact. I would go further and allow any activity that doesn't directly harm others or activity between consenting adults. Otherwise someone else is determining where the line is when there shouldn't be one. Part of the problem is sadly a great many people believe that "most people" are stupid or at least less intelligent than they are so they need decisions made for them.

I understand that it was block booking by anti vaxxers (see prior news re. Webley etc.). I can only assume that means they booked for their first jabs and then noshowed (unless some have changed their minds on vaccination since having a first). Thankfully the response on social media etc. to the offer of walk-ins meant it quickly became rammed. So it is known who they were, but I guess very difficult to take action against. Words fail me (well they don't, but words suitable for publication here fail me).

I did hear one on the radio saying unvaccinated as a lifestyle choice, "i'm vegan and the vaccine isn't vegan"
It's probably not Halal or Kosher either but those that follow those religions are pragmatic about certain things.
I think I like the Singapore concept anyone unvaccinated admitted to hospital with covid after date nn/nn/nnnn will be charged for their care

Also relatively easy to postulate that: -where 'O' is most prevalent it is crowding out Delta, so started building on but now suppressing D - that the 'objective' of alarming people has been partly met, people are changing their behaviours accordingly and the doubling rate has thus become more extended I'd say there was plenty of evidence for the latter, whether its cancellation of bookings in the hospitality industry, mask wearing, an increase in social distancing, or people simply talking about not doing x because they want to see their family at Xmas. -

And of course, school closures. Stopping unvaccinated children mixing together.
