The remote island nation of Kiribati has gone into lockdown after passengers on the first international flight in 10 months from Fiji tested positive for Covid. Despite being fully vaccinated, 36 of the 54 passengers tested positive on arrival.

New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has cancelled her wedding after announcing new Covid restrictions. Came out with some nonsense about all being in it together.
I wonder if there are others who could follow her example?

Talking of sensible women. Did anyone else spot the story the other day regarding Boris's offer to the queen prior to Prince Philip's funeral ? Namely he offered to suspend the 30 person limit for 24 hours for the funeral. Sensibly the Queen declined. But it sort of just sums up everything.. The link below isn't the one I originally read the story on (heaven forbid, in this case its the Daily Wail so certainly wouldn't have been) link

That’s different IMHO. A private funeral, right?

For a country that is 94% fully vaccinated why are there new covid restrictions and a stupid woman putting off getting married?

Because they're seeing an uptick in the number of +ves, just at the tail end of the Omigawd wave giving them their highest ever number of cases. Their total death toll from the start has doubled since late November. www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/new-zealand/Let me guess - you're about to say their numbers are tiny compared to the UK's? That might be kinda their whole point...

Total cases to August 2021 = 3,000 Total deaths to August = 26 = ~1/100 cases Total cases since August = 12,600 Total deaths since August = 26 = ~1/500 cases Yeh, I'd say vaccinations were definitely working well for them.

The vaccinations wane quickly. Does it make me anti-vax in your eyes to say so? P.S. My booster is tomorrow in Bracknell. Perhaps I'll bump into BB there.... P.P.S. I put my money where my mouth was and sold out of MRNA (Moderna) a couple of months or so ago. It was one of my few good investment calls...

Not a good day for being French:
- France recorded over 500k cases yesterday
- Reunion Island (which I think still counts as a region of France) recorded 47k cases yesterday. That's 5% of the population and 25% of all recorded cases in a single day.

So had my booster today - Pfizer.
What side effects if any did you guys have and what can I look forward to. A headache and mild fever for the first night and that's it? Nothing?
Next question, I assume it doesn't protect me much against contracting omicron because the anti-bodies produced are not very effective against the virus, but I assume it helps considerably if and when my cells become infected as the T and other cells slay the infected ones. i.e. I assume it protects well against serious illness?

Meanwhile, 90% of children aged 12-15 have antibodies thanks to vaccination program. Only about 50% of that age group has had a first vaccine, so I'm not convinced the vaccine programme is what's providing 90% of them antibodies... I had Tizer. I had a moderately sore arm for a few hours, and then faintly sore for maybe another 12-18 hours. Nothing else. Yes the booster is very effective against serious disease. If you want to read some mroe: Effectiveness of COVID-19 booster vaccines against covid-19 related symptoms, hospitalisation and death in EnglandThat was from a quick google (the link, not the statement, which is well known/publicised) But don't forget this is not like topping up the engine oil in your car. It will take 2-3 weeks for you to gain good benefit from the booster jab.
